We don't need a LB. NFL teams typically keep 7 on the roster.
We have:
1. Smith 2.Vander Esch 3.Lee 4.Thomas 5.Gifford 6.Covington 7.March

Plus I see Jelks as potentially a Wilber type hybrid

Covington and March aren't that great, even as backups. Let's get some talent in the lb core as well.

I'd consider Covington and March as strictly ST guys. You need a couple on the roster.

Really? Covington and March are not very good. If they see the field outside ST, we are in trouble. Lee and Thomas are likely here for one more year only. Smith regressed horribly last year, looks like he can’t move very well in certain directions, teams appears to have figured it out and are using it against him in games. Vander Esch is coming off a serious neck injury that is still an unknown and likely has him following in Frederick’s footsteps in a few years if he even makes it that long. Gifford is an UDFA who looked good but couldn’t stay healthy for more than a few plays every time he saw the field. Right now he is a completely unreliable unknown. I’d say drafting a solid LBer on day 3, if that chance arises, might be smart for the future given everything I just typed.

Agree. 6 of the 7 LBs have question marks...Thomas has none and we know who he is. I would see the need if they even drafted an LB with a premium pick.

This is crazy to me. If we started Joe Thomas and Jaylon Smith I'd still have bigger worries at RDE, CB, TE, WR, OT, and OC given the current roster. I get that LVE's neck could be a serious problem and Sean Lee is on his last legs but we have 7 picks and still have to fix so many holes. To me, next year when we know more about LVE and Sean Lee likely retires....this is the time to add LB's. Not only that but we should have 11 picks including two extra 3rd round compo picks to use

LB is not not a need, but by my score it's 8th or 9th on the priority list with 7 draft picks. Ultimately the need is irrelevant on day 3; you're picking players who can make the team, not ones to start.

That being said, I'm not worried about picking a day 3 linebacker; I'm worried about picking a day 1 linebacker. There's some Kenneth Murray shaped smoke clouds in the sky.

I feel that but what sounds crazy to me is thinking you can depend on a LB with neck issues (see Devontae Holloman), one with stiff leg or whatever, and an injury prone 34 y.o.

Heck, by TC this team could be looking to trade for a quality LB.

Smith n Thomas cool, but they at least one more.

Well put.… I feel the team badly needs a LB better that all behind the two starters. Won't happen but the OU kid IMO will star for whoever drafts him. Great athlete that can really run and very physical.
