I went to his bar/restaurant in Key Largo. I was surprised to see the number of pics with him and Terry and family. They are apparently very close friends. Side note. The only picture of JJ was the one with the Lombardi.

Landry was gone by the time they drafted Troy. Landry did draft some 90s era players who won Super Bowls, for example, Michael Irvin, Kelvin Martin, Bill Bates, and others.

Initially Jimmy and Troy were not eye to eye (Steve Walsh, Steve Beurlien). But after Jimmy was fired and being under Barry Switzer, Troy realized what he had in Jimmy Johnson and they became very close including working for Fox. You saw the tears Troy had for Jimmy when he saw the HOF announcement on Fox. Troy has made many trips to the 3 rings boat, even on behalf of Garrett who eventually decided to be a puppet, Troy has no love for Jerry Jones who got rid of his coach and then blame is injury retirement for the Cowboys woes. Troy was furious with Jones and confronted him in the tunnel of Texas Stadium before a game. So I had no doubt Troy would be the presenter (mutual disdain for Jerry Jones the GM not the owner). Terry Bradshaw is icing on the cake. So Jimmy will have 7 Super Bowl rings introduce him in the HOF. If Jerry would not have fired him, he would have had 7 Super Bowl rings on his own in Dallas or at least 5.

Yeah, Jimmy was tied to Steve Walsh. If I remember correctly, he thought Walsh was the better QB. I think we are all glad Jimmy came to his senses.

I don't know that I ever really heard Jimmy talk about it, but you have to believe he thought Walsh was likely to be the better QB. Otherwise there would have been no reason to use a 1st round draft pick on him after having already drafted Troy. It still turned gold for Jimmy anyway though, because the Saints were desperate for a QB with Bobby Hebert holding out, and Jimmy was able to trade Walsh for a 1st and 3rd round pick in the 1991 draft, and a 2nd rounder in the 1992 draft.

Walsh was taken in the NFL Supplemental Draft.

Yes, but whatever round you take a player in the supplemental draft costs a pick in the same round of the regular draft. Accordingly, taking Walsh in the first round of the supplemental draft cost the Cowboys a first round pick in the regular draft. That’s why teams so seldom use the supplemental draft.
