Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje to headline UFC 249 fight card from undisclosed location

Dana White has been promising that the UFC 249 fight card would still be coming to us live on Saturday, April 18, despite the growing threat of the coronavirus pandemic that has shut down much of the sports and entertainment world. White has delivered on that promise as the UFC president announced on Twitter on Monday that the not only will the card still run as planned, but it will be headlined by an interim lightweight championship fight between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje.

No one wants to see Ferguson destroy Justin Gaethje.

Cancelled. It appears Disney/ESPN stepped in and essentially forced Dana White not to do it.

This is a typical promoter type situation. If he pulled it off, he would be cheered by the strong nucleus of MMA fans. It gets cancelled, he will still get cheered for trying his best by those same fans who now jeer the network execs. He set himself up to look good either way.
