Why not Clay Matthews for 3rd down?

  • Guy got 8 sacks last year
  • Knows McCarthy
  • Won't have to worry about him off the field
  • Veteran Leadership and won a Super Bowl
  • Won't be cheap but won't be super expensive either
  • Our biggest weakness is the secondary, why not lessen their load by bringing more pass rush

There is no guarantee Gregory or Aldon get reinstated. There is even less of a guarantee that they won't get suspended again if reinstated. I think Clay is a safe veteran option who can make a difference on 3rd downs for us. I'm surprised MM hasn't given him a phone call personally.

I've hated that guy for so long I just don't feel that generous toward him. And as for Aldon and Randy not being any guarantee to get reinstated, what's your hurry to get that decision handed down? The commish's decision is coming in May so have some damn patience.

I see your point. I just want to cover myself in case Goodell is in his usual screw the Cowboys mood.

They have enough at that spot. Give someone the reps and let them develop. They’ve drafted what five DEs in the past 3 years. What’s the point if you never let them play?

I expect a couple more players signed myself
I don’t expect any big names

Aldon, RG, Anae on the RDE side... there's no room for Clay.

Crawford - just a run down guy
Jelks, Armstrong, Jackson - later picks or undrafted for a reason
Aldon & Gregory - aren't reinstated yet nor can either be trusted to stay around if they are
Anae - very happy about the pick, but he is a rookie

I wanna win now ya'll.

I get the sense this is not going to be a hard decision for the commish to make in Aldon's case. Randy's case may be a little harder to approve but I expect them both back.

Also see your point.

But if Gregory and Aldon aren't reinstated, or they are and they get in trouble again, he's a much better option than Crawford or a rookie rushing on 3rd down. I like the Anae pick but I don't think he's better than Clay Matthews today.

I think if Gregory and Smith are not reinstated, he will come aboard.
