Honestly, with everything now going on around the country, and with the league, this may be the best alternative for this year.

Kirk Cousins’ advice to Dak Prescott: Franchise tag can be your friend
Posted by Charean Williams on May 8, 2020, 4:29 PM EDT
Kirk Cousins played under the franchise tag twice, in 2016 and again in 2017, before leaving for the Vikings in free agency in 2018. He originally signed a three-year, $84 million deal with the Vikings before agreeing to a two-year, $66 million extension this offseason.

It worked out for Cousins, who was the first quarterback to play under the franchise tag since Drew Brees in 2005 with the Chargers. That worked out for Brees, too.

Dak has been planning on pulling a Kirk Cousins since this started. I think they have the same agent.

Cowboys wont use tag again next year. Thats where Dalton comes in. Think I read the tag would go up to 45m for next year

Tag him twice if necessary. If it becomes obvious he will never sign, at least get some use out of him. Or give him permission to seek his own deal if its advantageous to the cowboys. Vikes got cousins. But still no big dance.

Dak roller the dice last year with a deal on the table and almost nothing on his fourth year/fourth round draft pick salary. Why hold the he do it again for $31M?

At least we have an idea that Dak will play on the tag if it comes to it

Dak knows he might not be able to deliver so he wants the money upfront now it is his only chance. It is a poker move
It is a poker move.

He also counts on Jerrah to do ANYTHING for another Trophy. Or the BELIEF he can get another and another.

So Dak rides that wave and says you cannot get there without me.

But Dak has forgotten teams that succeed do it with the entire team doing it also.

There have been teams who have won or gotten to SBs and not won and they were not the most skilled nor highest paid.

It's sort of like a very peculiar record that few if any teams will win a SB if their team has a single player who wins the rushing title, too.

I think Walter Payton in the modern Era is the only one.

So Zeke can't play to well or we are sunk.

Just a few thoughts.

Cousins has it right. The salary cap goes up constantly. QB salaries continue to rise. Why lock yourself into a long term deal where your salary can be outdated very soon. Dak would be paid more the next 2 years if he plays for the tag.

I am going to guess Dak wants a deal shorter in length because of this.

The below I presume is the only thing Dak can deliver.....He has lost all his leverage and might have to experience the Tag being rescinded for us to sign a major defensive player !!!

I really dont think they are all that far apart, and I dont at all think the delay means theres a problem.

Really. Jerry knows what it's going to take to sign him, and the bonus is going to be at least 50 million, probably more.

Why in the world would you write that check a minute before he would miss any type of OTA or camp?

To pacify fans that think theres a problem? Its FIFTY MILLION dollars! Give it up later than sooner. Fairly simple business. The rest of the world wants to turn it into something else.
