Will the new staff be able to reach Cooper?

But that message doesn't come across as strong after first giving him $60 million in guarantees.
40 is guaranteed.

After 2021 there would be 6M in dead money but a 16M cap savings.

It's essentially a 2 year 40M deal, fully guaranteed.

Considering Cooper had other options, the team did pretty good.

Are "not very long" and "two years" two different things?
thats at minimum,

my point is his contract is not only bad for us its an anchor that will keep him from moving for sometime..get used to AC face hes DC for a long while.. hopefully he can play well this year road and home..stays healthier and motivated..

Well that is better than I thought, but $40 mil over 2 years for a player that has been inconsistent is still a lot. If he can get over his road game issue, then I would agree. But if he remains the same player, it's over-paying.

I don't know what is going on but his motivations seem to be based on emotion a lot. He turned down more money to go to the Commanders. https://redskinswire.usatoday.com/2020/03/17/amari-cooper-turned-down-a-bigger-offer-Commanders/

We know that emotionally there is an upside to playing at home (most teams have better W-L record at home) so maybe Amari is more emotionally "strong" at home. Maybe he is just driven by very strongly by his feelings. I don't like this, if it's the case, because I want someone in there at the #1 WR that is consistent and strong no matter what the outside forces or stimulations.

Just trying to offer an answer to those home/away stats.

Having a great WR who wants to be here, I don't see as a bad thing. If Cooper is only in it for money he would have taken the offer the Skins made which was significantly higher. To me it is amazing how quick fans turn on our players.

We have all seen that Cooper is a totally different player in home games, compared to the one's on the road. One can argue that when he's plays in Dallas, he is a legitimate #1 WR, but on the road he flat out disappears.

What is the cause of this? Is he a mentally weak player? Does he lose focus? Does he give less effort if not apart of the game early on? What was the reason he was benched in the most important game last season in Philadelphia? All legitimate questions.

The Cowboys in essence resigned Cooper to a 2 year extension. The new staff has 2 years to figure out the issues with him or be forced to release him. This is kind of crazy to envision when he plays so well at home, but if they cannot rely on him in big moments on the road, might as well find someone else who can.

All these questions have known answers.

1. Garrett would tone down the game plan on the road, get conservative and try to run the ball.
2. Cooper was benched because Sanjay had certain formations and plays where he wasn't on the field. That was one of them. Sanjay is an idiot.
3. Cooper himself says he needs to focus more on the road
4. Cooper said he was more hurt than he ever had been in his career the 2nd half of last year.

I was in the camp of wanting the Cowboys to resign Cooper. If we look at him objectively, take away our fandom, his home/away splits have a huge gap in his production. Why is he such an inferior player on the road compared to home games? The stats support this. Yes, we understand he was dealing with a multitude of injuries last season, but injuries have no bearing where the games have been played. We are going to need our #1 WR to show up big in meaningful road contests, if he continues this trend, he will not be a Cowboy in the near future.

Excellent, thought out response. I cannot disagree in anything you have said.

I didn’t think Cooper not playing well on the road was a isolated issue. This team as a whole wasn’t good on the road.

That is true. But I also think he did not look like the same player at times. Very hard to put your finger on the issue. His home numbers, if they were the same on the road, he would have lead the league in yards 869/2 1738. Thomas had 1725 which did lead the league. If his road numbers were the same at home, He would have been an average 3rd receiver at best 320/2 640... bizarre.

I don't disagree. Its a issue but I Don't think its isolated to Amari. The coaching was poor on the road. And I'm a big Dak fan but he was better at home than on the road. Zeke was better at home. I think its all the same source of the problem.

I am anxious to see all of them with a serious NFL head coach for the first time in their careers. Someone that has the ability to make a half time change.. last year was incredible, 8-0 when leading at the half and 0-8 when trailing, it's never been easier to see the inability to make an adjustment.

There are 16 games home or away does not mean a damn thing. He suffered from Plantar Fasciitis though out the season, sustained a quad injury and then knee injury, The fact he played 16 games through all of this is pretty amazing

I think he'll be just fine. he became disillusioned with some of the coaches, particularly garrett. many times after he made a good play and walked by the clapper on the way to the bench, he simply ignored even looking at garrett.

Not up to you to provide, but you do realize these numbers are largely useless without the context of the league average for starting WRs, WR 1s and/or comparisons against other pro-bowl WRs
I would say that what other receivers do is irrelevant. This is poor. It is not acceptable.

Nobody is questioning his physical toughness playing through many injuries last season. I wonder if this was just a one year bump in the road or if it continues to be a problem.

We overpaid for a WR who is not elite.
Against good defenses, our passing game is for the dogs including Coop till its Garbage time and the battle is lost for us.
20 million a year ouch....

I think injury can affect a player performance, those who will say injury is no excuse that is a great saying but not a factual one. Injury can have an impact on a player’s performance. You can also look at how the overall team played road and away. At home the team was 5-3 and on the road 3-5 so overall play on the road was unacceptable not Cooper alone.

The last WR coach had a beef with him that likely effected him. He seems like a emotional guy. He feels comfortable at home games. He was also injured worse than he let on last year. He said being pulled from the game or out of a series was up to the coach. Having a beef with the guy in control of when you play could have something to do with it.

He seems like an emotional guy?

Cooper is one of the most even-keeled players in the league. He's literally all business.

Amazingly this leads fans to make dumb attributions about him. Usually that he doesn't care ... but now he's "emotional."

Dude's personality is just like Sean Lee's. How come none of ya'll calling him out?

I don’t mean emo like Dez. Just pouty on the sidelines. Maybe he was upset because of the way the coach was treating him.
