Nah I was right about you Dak fans.

You all are the real trolls.

To want the team to pay that type of money, and therefore not be able to sign whoever and cripple us to an average QB who needs help, let's me know you all aren't fans of the team

Just trolls, that are sensitive like you.

And it gets old.

Really? I want the team to pay Dak that money? I've been pretty against paying Dak top money. I like the guy, but you can't find a single post where I've said that. I've said the opposite. In fact, I think it's a mistake on the team's part and on Dak's part. Go find a post where I've said otherwise. You like to throw that out there an expect it to stick...but it doesn't. You've clearly not read any of my posts on the subject. I'm just tired of every single thread being infected by posts like yours. You inject your opinion on that subject into every thread whether it belongs or not. I'm not a fan of that. We can't have a discussion on any other topic. So, yeah, I'm tired of the trolls.

Oh so you are against paying Dak?

Then you are no enemy of mines. Welcome my fellow cowboy fan. You may proceed as you were.

The hardest thing would be coaching.
Today's game has evolved so great coaches from the 80s and 90s would face very different situations.

If I were starting my all-time "preferred" Cowboys team today I'd plug in Mike McCarthy as Head Coach.
Chances he passes Landry or even Jimmy are near zero but in today's game I think he would be far better.

Sucks to say but Pats would be very tough to beat.
Brady, Moss. Gronk, Welker, Terry Glenn and a tremendous defense that can play both 3-4, 4-3 concepts.

DAL with Staubach, Irvin, Pearson, peak Dez, 25 year old Witten, Emmett, the best OL of all teams would be super nasty with Mike calling modern spread schemes.
Defense is a little spottier but the bit of healthy Deion, Haley that we got would be super nasty.

How do you see the Dallas defense as being spotty?

The interior line would include Bob Lilly and Randy White. You could pull from the Little Sisters of the Poor for DE and still have a good line, but the Cowboys could roll out Charles Haley, Harvey Martin, Too Tall Jones and George Andrie at DE, not to mention DT back-ups like L'Roi Glover, Jethro Pugh, Leon Lett and Russell Maryland. That would be great depth rotation.

At weakside OLB, Chuck Howley had a HOF career regardless of the oversight on the part of the voters. DeMarcus Ware at OLB rushing from behind Haley or Martin would wreck havoc. Inside, you have Lee Roy Jordan, a great player overshadowed by legendary players in the 60s and the 70s or he'd have a half dozen 1st team All Pro nominations, and Ken Norton, Jr. On the strong side, Thomas Henderson ran a legit 4.4 and hit like a truck. Imagine Landry (or Johnson) using Hollywood like the Bears used Wilbur Marshall and Otis Wilson on those great 80s defenses, turning their OLBs loose (I think the 84 Bears registered 72 sacks as it was impossible to block those LBers). Henderson could run with any TE in NFL history, and most RBs.

The secondary would have HOFers at both CB positions: Mel Renfro and Deion Sanders. Add Kevin Pup Smith or Everson Walls as SCB, with Terrance Newman as depth. Safeties would be HOFer Cliff Harris and future (?) HOFer Darren Woodson, with Cornell Green and Charlie Waters on the bench.

That's a pretty formidable defense.

There can't be five teams in NFL history that could match the front four. The LBers won't equal those of the Bears (#1) or Steelers (#2) but it would still be an impressive group. The DBs would have three HOFers in the starting line-up, and possibly four if Woodson gets the call from Canton, which he deserves.

On offense, Staubach would line up behind the greatest OL ever with Emmitt, Dorsett, Duane Thomas, Preston Pearson, Walt Garrison and Moose Johnston in the backfield, while throwing to Irvin, Drew Pearson, Bob Hayes, Tony Hill, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Jay Novacek and Billy Joe DuPree. Not many NFL teams can roll out an offense like that.

NE would have amazing skill position players (QB, TE, WR with good RBs) but Dallas would have the better O-line and a big advantage at RB. Cowboys would be superior at tackle (Wright, Williams, T. Smith over Armstrong, Gray, Light) and center, while OG might be a toss-up or slight edge to Dallas (LA and Z. Martin vs. Hannah and Logan Mankins).

I think Lilly vs Hannah would be a stalemate but White would win more battles than not vs. Mankins. I don't see any NE D-lineman, not even Wilfork, matching up vs Allen, and the Cowboys tackles, especially a healthy in his prime Erik Williams, would beat up on Seymour and their other DEs after four quarters.

I don't see where Tippett and McGinnest are better than Howley, Ware and Henderson on the outside. Possibly a draw but not better.

NE would have great corners with Mike Haynes, Ty Law, Revis and Stephon Gilmore. I'd still take the combo of Sanders-Renfro vs any of those two even though it's close; although for depth, I'd go with NE. Sanders would cover Randy Moss and Renfro would cover Stanley Morgan. It wouldn't be easy but Dallas would have a chance vs those two, and Sanders and Renfro could run stride for stride with those two speedsters. Irvin and Bob Hayes would likewise cause match-up problems for Haynes and the other corners but no doubt, the Pats would roll out some outstanding DBs.

I think Woodson or Hollywood would have done a good job covering Gronk, something most LBers and safeties have obviously struggled with over his career.

I think the best all-time teams from the NFC would be Dallas, SF and GB with Chicago not far behind. In the AFC it would be Pittsburgh and NE with Oakland next.

In a fantasy tournament, I see Dallas beating Pittsburgh or NE in the Super Bowl.

Randy White and Bob Lilly wouldn't be DL today.
I'm sure they'd be fine LB but guys that size aren't playing as down DL.

But again a lot of the exercise is just that. Deciding what translates.
Does Lombardi win it all or he he easily out-coached by Belichick?
Does Earl Campbell or Gale Sayers prove more effective in this ruleset/era?

It's all very interesting but challenging to see any player/coach/team from the 60s be compared great to the guys of today.
BUT if those guys had today's money, training, rulesets, nutrition, drugs... good grief they might just dominate.

Niners and its probably not that close.

Aikman and Staubach were good, but they dont compare to Young and Montana. The rest of the offense probably goes to the Niners save the RB and some Olineman.

Defense might be a little more even. Maybe Cowboys probably have an edge there.

Coaching definitely goes to the Niners.
Joe Montana throwing to Rice and T.O. would be a nightmare by itself. But you throw in their defense here lately and you'd have the perfect storm, IMO.
