For those of you with long memories, can you help us with this trivia question?

In the PLAYOFFS only, what are some of the best last minute game-winning victories that you can recall?

Any scenario will do....long runs, kickoff returns, passing TDs....any PLAYOFF win in the final minutes.

I know we had one in 2014, so that one is so recent, it's easy.

I don't think we ever had one in the Aikman era--because we either won (11 wins) every playoff game by more than one score or we lost (5 losses) every playoff game by more than a score.
No one-score late game scenarios.

But what about before the Aikman era?
I would assume Roger 's Cowboys had one or two
Maybe the Danny White, Craig Morton, or Don Meredith eras?

Those with good memories, please help out.

No close but no cigars--although the Romo era had the only recent last minute win, it also had 3 last minute close-but-no cigars too.
They don't count.

Thanks for helping!

Staubach to Sellers (used to play golf with him) in 1972 against SF. Crazy comeback. The Danny White to Pearson at Atlanta in 1980 was amazing as well. Of course the Hail Mary at Minn. They've won some great ones and lost some great ones. Part of being a Cowboys fan. A lot of drama. I like when they win 30-10. Can't handle all that chest pain crap.

Wow
I realize its rare, but I thought we'd have more than 4.

In all of the Dallas Cowboys storied history, they had late 4th quarter PLAYOFF game-winning drives on 4 occasions

  • 1972 vs San Francisco: Roger Staubach to Ron Sellers completed an18 point (wow) comeback win.
  • 1975 vs Minnesota: Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson ---Hail Mary!
  • 1980 vs Atlanta: Danny White to Drew Pearson to complete a 10 point comeback win
  • 2014 vs Detroit : Tony Romo to Terrence Williams to complete a 13 point comeback win.

When Drew Pearson, caught the original “Hail Mary” with 24 seconds left in an NFL divisional playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings.

I’m here for Dak’s big come from behind wins.

He brought the Cowboys back from 18 points down in the playoffs and then this happened.

Jared Cook got open on 3rd and 20 as GB scored 34 points in Jerryworld. Stupid Dak.

Those were rare.

The Cowboys were 0-5 in NFL championship games decided by 7 points or less. That is 3 SB's and 2 previous NFL championships.

Until the Giants beat the Bills by one point in SB 25, for those previous 24 SB's, the three closest SB's were the three the Cowboys had lost.

On the other hand, all five SB wins were by double digit margins.

Then there is the 49er game with Montana and "the Catch".

The bottom line is the Cowboys had to earn everything they got it, they were rarely lucky. Contrast that win the Patriots winning their first three SB's by 3 points.

Danny and the miracles...'80 div playoff road win over atlanta...Danny to Drew.
THIS ONE GETS MY VOTE. RAUCUS CROWD, AWESOME TEAM THEY BEAT. They beat the hottest team in the league on their own field. It was incredible.Danny was simply on fire that game, clutch. As much as I loved Tony Romo, he was no Danny White.

That was a great comeback!

I think you might be a bit overly nostalgic about Danny White overall though

He only had 2 playoff games where he threw for more TDs than interceptions.
Just 2 out of many
To be fair, he didn't start in several of those.
But that Atlanta game was one of them.

Truly a great win

he sure wasn't afraid. He is forgotten by many. The man had to follow ROGER lol..and played exceptional. Problem was the league caught up to what Dallas was doing draftwise, and so it became tougher to get to the big dance. Danny was also playing with aging team mates, and they never did properly replace those players. The 83 championship appearance might be Dannys best feat actually. He was playing with a depleted defense. Even though the skins beat them in the TITLE game, just making it that far was great. DANNY was a huge reason for that.

Im more sympathetic towards Danny because the guy had huge shoes to fill and did a yeoman's job doing it. Not very many guys could have done that.

just re-watched that game.
it was closer than i remember.
Danny gets knocked-out and Hogeboom goes the rest of the way.
we had several chances late but just couldn't make the plays.
