Let's be real, he went there because they would take him.

He was a great player for a long time, but it's not 2007 or even 2014 anymore. He's had dead legs for years.

My impression from what McCarthy said was that Witten wanted to coach but wasn't interested in an entry level type position.

I think that not only because he still want to play, but because Gruden could keep him employed once he is done.

JJ could have gave him a chance as well but I dont think McCarthy wants anyone that is part of the JJ tree long term.

LMAO at "ditched". Considering how he considers Booger a father figure to him, I don't think that's a word that would come from him. I also think he reached out to whoever did use that word and let them know about it.

I think he had few suitors and for a player with some age on him, it has to be exciting playing for a team in their first year in a new city. And that is a uniform as famous as the Cowboys.

I wouldn’t have minded him staying if he was able to accept a role like that for us. Maybe it was the coaching staff but he had a reputation of not wanting to leave the field.

It’s not a ton but a lot to give to a guy who is “iffy” to make the final cut.

I suppose it's possible they hope he can mentor their two up and coming te's.. i wasn't aware his deal was that good.

Who is Witten's competition at TE for the Raiders.
Waller, Moreau, Bowers, Carrier
That is who is listed on the Raiders roster from the team website.
Though I don't know much about any of them.

Much less to compete with than Jarwin, Bell, Scultz. As 3 others that are PS guys.

The new coaching staff wanted a change at TE. Coaching was not an option in Dallas for Witten. So he was forced out. Good for him for finding another team, but he should have just retired. Maybe he chose to still play because he knows he has no future in broadcasting... he burned that bridge at MNF.
