Alright let’s talk Dline, it works in Madden too, who are your starting 4 and who is the extra lineman in a 52?

As it is now I do this:

Crawford, Poe, McCoy, Dlaw

The wildcards to me are Aldon, Griffin, Gallimore. I see the Everson/Aldon Smith camp battle as epic. Crawford is stout so I like him setting the edge but RDE could very well be Aldon or Griffen.

Yeah, I see Aldon Smith as a guy who plays maybe 20-25 plays a game. He’s been a great pass rusher and if he has even half of what he used to be, he’s a defensive weapon. But I don’t see him as a starter.

What is lineup when Tomlin wants to run the 3-4?

Lawrence, Poe, Griffin?

Aldon Smith is a total wildcard, he certainly has the physical talent to beat out Griffin but we are miles away from really knowing. He could also be cut, we have to wait and see.

I think we are in a great spot with Smith and Randy Gregory, they don't have to do anything but potentially could be monster backups playing on passing downs.

it would be kind of a waste to line up lawrence and griffin in a 3-4 front. I would think they would want size in that scenario...This is where crawford would be a fit at one of those end spots. At least if they are doing it traditionally with the ends in a 5 tech 2 gapping.

There is NO shot Crawford starts over Griffen. I’d already lose trust in McCarthy if that happened

what if they use crawford on traditional running downs or obvious running downs to save Griffen and keep him fresh for later in the game and passing downs?

I personally want Griffen 1st and 2nd down outside then move inside on 3rd down while Aldon goes outside

As for the 34 I’m seeing Lawrence, Poe, McCoy. I like Crawford and Gallimore as well in that spot. If Poe or McCoy have injuries that really simplifies it one of them at NT....well an injury messes up the 34.

position: LDE - 3T - 1T - RDE

Starters: D-Law - McCoy - Poe - Griffen
Back ups: Crawford - Galimore - Woods - Smith
3rd string: Amstrong - Hill - Anae

11 seems like too many so Hill may be the odd man out. If Gregory gets reinstated we'll have decisions to make.

Call me crazy, but as it stands TODAY.......I'd say DLaw, McCoy Poe and Aldon ( for now ). Look, we're four weeks from the first regular season game. I'm not sure Griffen will be ready to start. What IF this happens and Aldon shows out. Then what.....

If so, you'll have three starters over the age of 30 along with 28-year-old Lawrence.

I'd limit the snaps for Griffen, Poe, and McCoy to an extent.

We do have some decent depth for a change. Crawford, Woods, Smith, Galimore, Anae, Armstrong can/will all play

So you're saying our D-Line could do a remake of the movie Old School?

Since you don't know what to expect from Smith/Gregory after long layoffs, I thought they'd have issues early and then we can rotate them in more as the season drags on to spell Griffen to keep him fresher for any playoff run.

If Smith works out, he will probably replace Griffin in formations where we run a 3 man front. He is a better stand up pass rusher. They have said before that they will mix up fronts so both Griffin and Smith should get snaps

Some nice names but some age too..Start the Delorean please.

I don’t mind some age on the Dline, worst case they become an immovable wall. As long as they can stop the power run game of Tenn and SF they should be good.
