I believe the reports. People don't tend to lie about work ethic. As odious a teammate he was, no one questioned T.O.'s work ethic. If you're working hard, you're working hard.

That doesn't mean it necessarily will translate on the field. He might be out-talented on the field. We won't know that until he plays.

But if a coach says he's working hard, I tend to believe it.

Most of this effusive praise relates to his preparation. But not his actual performance on the field. Don't want to be a negative Nancy, but there is a difference.

Both college D-Coordinators and Marinelli said that he worked hard and had a "high motor".

The 2nd college DC's description was basically that he worked hard but didn't really adapt to their (new coaching staff) style of defense.

Marinelli's comment: "He has the want-to and the work-ethic, but he is just not getting it".

He seems like he might be the kind of guy that would shut down to that kind of talk.
Maybe it was a different kind of talk.
Maybe. Managing personnel is not one size fits all. You have to identify what motivates each individual and what that individual responds to.

I have been a Hill fan since he played in college. I think Marinelli held him back more then Hill holding himself back did. I think the kid will bounce back and prove he belongs in the NFL this season. I also believe Dallas has a few good young Dt's on the roster right now.

He was also about 325 pounds when we drafted him at age 21. If has even average maturity and motivation now, he has the physical skills to be an above average starter. Too soon to tell obviously, but the tools are there.

Big and SPARQy. Add "working hard" to it, and you can get a player.

Having serious adversity your rookie year isn't the worst thing. Lot of guys have been getting by on athleticism til the NFL. An NFL kick in the pants can help the underachievers up their game.

I think Mo was like that. Needed to have his bubble burst before he could be the best he could be.

Trying and succeeding is two different things. Just saying. Good luck or good riddance. Only time will tell which one comes true.
