Dan Quinn is 5-1 vs Mike McCarthy. He is 2-1 Against Dallas while head coach of Atlanta.
Dirk Koetter should know everything there is to know about Mike Nolan's Defense. They were both coordinators in Atlanta under Mike Smith. So they should be completely prepared for whatever Nolan Brings. Yes the flip of that is true also and Nolan should know all about there offense...the issue to me there is Koetter is the one playing chess with all the talent here, the Dallas defense is not that talented and some of the guys who are talented were complete no shows sunday night.
Dallas was 4-0 for noon kickoffs last year...those games were against Miami, Washington x2 and at Detroit. in 2018 they were 4-1. In 2017 they were 1-1 and 2016 they were 3-1
So this team under Dak is 12-2. He really didn't play in the loss at philly in 16 and philly didnt really try in the win at philly in 17 so essentially they are 11-1. in this time period the only good team they have played at noon was baltimore in 2016. Crowds here for noon games are usually lethargic and the stadium lacks energy...not that it matters this week.
Joe Whitt Jr. Atlanta's secondary coach and pass game coordinator was with McCarthy for 10 years in Green Bay. I imagine he will know exactly how he thinks and wants to approach a game.
Dan Quinn said that his secondary got beat in Seattle because they didn't disguise their coverages and in man they just were left chasing seattle's pass catchers. I expect them to play more zone and maybe change some things up.
Atlanta's corners are not very good. They were missing their third corner sunday in Kendall Sheffield and Terrell is a rookie. Oliver looks like the real weak link and is probably where Dallas will attack them. Their safeties are a good group it appears to me.
They lost a game against the top nfc team IMO after an odd sequence of 4th down mishaps for Atlanta. I don't see that happening again.
I feel like the rams played especially conservative on offense to hog the ball and keep what is supposed to be an explosive Dallas Offense off the field. I think Atlanta's approach will be the opposite. I think they are going to come out firing and just attack down the field.
After all the talk from April to August about how great the Cowboys trio of wr are I think this game swings because the group of pass catchers in Atlanta are just more talented than the Dallas secondary. Jones, Ridley, Gage and Hurst should do what they want sunday.
I will take Atlanta 31-20. I can see a scenario where Atlanta jumps out 14-0 and Dallas cuts it to 14-10 before atlanta makes it 21-10. An interesting situation would be Dallas on a fourth down trailing 21-17 in the fourth and McCarthy taking the points this week and then atlanta scores again. McCarthy gets roasted for going for three and Dallas loses 31-20 and is now staring straight at 0-3. All the pressure in the world would be on McCarthy and Dak to not lose to a what I think will be a 2-1 Cleveland team.
A real situation could set it self up that New York comes to Dallas october 11 to play the toilet bowl between two 0-4 teams. That's if they do in fact lose this game to Atlanta. Would have been nice if they had Cleveland this week. Mike McCarthy could be looking at a Dave Campo era start here in 2020.
