If Jarwin can come back healthy, they really have a nice 1-2 punch at TE now.

I really want to see more of Wilson. He plays with an edge, he can tackle and he seems to have decent instincts. Maybe a future as a solid SS for us.

Armstrong? Ehhh. He looks the same to me but that's not a bad thing. You need competent depth along the DL and he seems to provide that.
Armstrong is like Damien Wilson of DEs. He doesn’t hurt you, but he’s a dime a dozen in the 4th-5th round.

Doesn’t Damian Wilson have a SB ring as a starting LB with the chiefs?
Yes. He’s a solid player that can start. Nothing wrong with him. He’s like Joe Thomas the LB not the LT. You can do much worse but he’s never going to a pro bowl and probably won’t ever get second long term contracts with teams.

I don’t care that much about pro bowls. It’s sometimes a good thing, I’ve seen SB winners with less pro bowlers than we’ve had.

Interesting on how we feel about Jarwin and Schultz because if we can’t get the top OT in the draft there aren’t any D players I see worthy of a top 5 pick. The TE from Florida however is a baller. Would we?

Given Jarwin's contract, Dallas can save $2.25M against the cap in 2021 by releasing him as he is most certainly gone after 2021 given his dead money is only $2M and his cap hit is $6.25M.

Sorry Bob, but if you packaged all those guys, you couldn't get a bag of chips in return.

I almost added Tyler Biadz and Connor McGovern to this list. McGovern has come on as of late as a RG. Just not enough reps to know what he is yet. Biadz showed some promise before getting hurt. Again, too small a sample size.
I'll take my bets on Baddazz and I like McGovern too.
Im hopeful with our first string tackles returning

Hes a bit slow but who isnt in our secondary,,lol
but I do see that natural ability to make a play, and I take that all day.

Maybe you didn't see Chido chase down Saquon Barkley in our first game against the Giants last year? Also AB is a low 4.3 guy even though he doesn't play like it all the time. We have plenty of speed in our secondary.. at least at corner.. Now safety is another story. Woods is not terribly fast and Wilson is your classic 4.6 box safety. Asking him to cover or play in space is asking for trouble.

absolutely Gallimore and I forget Lamb because his so obvious

Let's not sleep on Hill.. who was probably playing the best of any of our DTs when he went down. The young talent on the team is promising.. it's the old guys who can't stay healthy that will be the problem if we don't achieve our goals in the next couple of years.

You’re right...didn’t say they are stars. They are role players only. But too many times this franchise doesn’t value any players but stars. These guys are just possibly good role players.

I wouldn't. We have enough skill guys on offense and a lot of holes everywhere else.

Rather go Sewell, Parsons, Surtain, trade down etc over a TE that high.

Besides, it feels like 1st round TEs don't live up the hype early on.
Some of the top TE's in the league now were day 2+ picks.
Kelce, Ertz, Goedert(potentially), Graham & Gronk(former stars), Waller, Kittle etc

Sure, you can land an Olsen, V Davis(late bloomer), Shockley or Engram etc but I don't see the value there this upcoming draft.

Schultz and Jarwin are limited ceiling guys, but with the trio of receivers we have for now, it seems like it that draft pick could go to a position of need without a huge dropoff in talent.

This is the time to be making individual evaluations because they do not play well as a team. They need help going forward and if Diggs and Wilson can just stabilize that secondary, they could get a leg up.

In a year where injuries and poor execution made this season dissolve faster than a snowball on a Dallas summer sidewalk, there are 3 bright lights that have come through in the darkness of a bad season.

Going into the season, these three guys were not considered to be future starters or even major contributors. But after injuries and disappointments from the players ahead of them in the depth chart, these guys have emerged as big contributors with a bright future:
  • Dalton Schultz-TE- the former 4th rounder from Stanford has emerged this year after the injury to Blake Jarwin in game one. Schultz has caught 44 passes for 432 yards and 3 TDs and has also improved as a blocker, which was his strength out of college. Who would have guessed he would become the reliable safety valve for all 4 QBs who have played this year. We found a pretty good TE now in Schultz.
  • Donovan Wilson- S- after being a little used backup early on behind Darrian Thompson, Wilson has emerged the last few weeks as a monster hitter who has forced a couple of turnovers and is everywhere on the field. His coverage skills are still “developing” and I’m not sure yet if he’s “the answer” at S long term, but he has certainly made himself part of the discussion.

  • Dorrance Armstrong- DE- also a former 4th rounder, Armstrong caught the eye of Mike Mac and other coaches early on this year in practices. Because of that, he has earned more playing time of late and has shown some flashes both as a run stopper and occasionally as a pass rusher. He’s probably never going to be a star, but as a rotational player, he has shown he’s capable of making enough plays to have a future here.
It’s been a rough year. But if these three guys continue to improve, their development might make the disappointment of this season less frustrating. None of them will probably ever be stars, but it takes more than stars to win in this league. These three have certainly been bright lights in the darkness.
Wonder what Schulz relative emergence means for a healthy Jarwin.
