That’s Exactly what I just saidWe actually let TJ Watt go by and Pitt laughed it up when we took Taco. They took Watt with the very next pick.

So what you are trying to sell us is that drafting lower is better?except the higher pick guarantees nothing. Its made up fantasy land stuff. If you are not in the top 2 or 3 more importantly not looking for a qb/left tackle/edge rusher then what is the issue here. Good players can be found all over the draft.
again middle to late round picks outplay top 10 picks all the time.
Winning is the point of the whole thing. The point isn't to win the draft, some arbitrary made up rankings and grades, it's to win the games when they are played.
this whole idea of losing to win the draft became this huge talking point with the inclusion of Bryan Broaddus on local radio and at the cowboys...plus of course twitter. It's fantasy football.
If you went back and talked to the 2004 49ers, dolphins and browns I bet they would trade those top 5 picks in 2005 for wins since none of the players turned out to be what they were supposed to be and two of them were average in Ronnie Brown and Braylon Edwards. Meanwhile the packers finished 10-6 and won the nfc north and drafted Aaron Rodgers at 24.
this same story is told over and over.
Even if we get the highest pick in our tier in the first round, due to strength of schedule, we rotate in other rounds. Currently we would pick at the top of our win tier in round one but the bottom of the tier in the next round. So round 2 we would pick about 7 spots lower than round one. How is that for a kick in the pills.Wrong!
We had the #4 pick locked up if we lose out. Now if we lose our last 2 games, we might get the #7 pick if we’re lucky!
Bottom line ask Jimmy Johnson what being able to get a ton of draft capital can get you. If you’re just picking 1 time each round I agree to an extent that it doesn’t matter. But the higher the pick the more opportunities to trade up or down and get either a better player or more picks.
Jimmy got this in 1989.
Jason, who I’ve defended and been a fan of personally, always tried to win the last game of the year to go 9-7 to give the team a “winning season” when they were out of the playoffs. What momentum did that create for the next year?
Also the more picks, the more players on cheap contracts you can have which matters when you have as many max level contracts as the Cowboys have on offense.
