He better be our Punter next year

If you’ve followed this team for many years, you’ll realize that he will be sent packing because Chris Jones has more tenure. The Joneses are loyal to veterans to the detriment of winning.

I have weird attitudes toward the kicking game. Punters should punt for distance, and kickers should be chosen for distance field-goal kicking (and kickoffs) because inside the 40 we're going for it almost always.

I remember he had one very good season in 2014 or sth. Since than a massive dropoff. One of the worst Punters in the Leauge.

Cutting Jones means 2 M Saved Cap Space. That alone should be a no brainer.

Niswander was fine.

PUNTER:facepalm::muttley:is not something we should be hangin our hat on. Shows you just how terrible we were as a team. The Punter is a guyyou want to be totally invisible. THAT MEANS your offense stayed on the field and scored alot. Its a bad thing for your punter to be recognized. Ray Guy he is not.

Never understood why Chris Jones still had a job here. Been one of the bottom half punters for most of his career.

Consistency. From 2018-2018 under 45 yard avg only twice, and that was still 44.1 and 44.5. Not top of the league, but there's value in consistency.

And stories are that he's had muscle injury problems for years, finally got it fixed so he may return to form in 2021, if not for Dallas than for someone else.

But his replacement has probably shown enough that Jones' $2 mil cap hit will cause his release....

Kin of a dumb record because of the small sample size, but he should be able to complete for the job next season. Jones needs to go.
26 isn’t really a small sample size. What it speaks volumes more about is our inability to move the chains and having to punt from our side of the 50, not the opponent’s side......hence the lofty average.

I noticed Brad Sham always seemed to hold him in such high regard despite his being a total spare.

I have a feeling he was a Jones favorite for some reason or another. Or maybe it was Garrett. But it was about something other than his performance.

Teams who can't move the chains and score punt a lot. Not a good thing.
Yeah I don't see the correlation....I could say if it was his putting yards but this is the average of his punts and even he punted once a game he looks good doing it. He looks like a upgrade over Jones.

I think his ability to run and throw saved his spot probably longer than it should've. And then when Bones came....he has all the tools Bones Fassell would want. I get why he would probably want him this year...I can't understand why such a conservative team like the Cowboys under Garrett would keep him though.

100% because everyone plays better when they leave the Cowboys

I've heard this quite a bit, but in reality, historically just the opposite is true. The Cowboys have a tendency to hold onto players for too long so by time they do release them or not resign them, they've been washed up for a while.
