Didn't Connor Williams grade out in the top-25 OGs last season? He gets a lot of hate around here, but I think he could get a substantial offer in free agency. He's incredibly athletic and has position flex. He's also improved every season he's been in the league. I think the team would be prudent to hold onto him if it's a team-friendly deal, but I don't think that will happen due to reasons already mentioned.

Yeah, don’t listen to the haters. Williams will get paid. He is good. Hopefully, he signs with the Cowboys.

If the team still sees Smith and Collins in their long term plans then I would let him walk

I expect McGovern to claim the left guard spot with Williams the backup at center and guard on game day.....I suspect Looney will be moving on.

Try him at RT

This is the wisest reply to the question. He is clearly just a guy at LG. I believe they can find an upgrade easily. They may already have in in McGovern. Or they can draft some this year to replace him. But, I have read too many opinions of "football analysts" saying he might be better at C or RT. I also read the Cowboys may give him some time at C this year. If he plays better there, maybe he competes with Biadasz, or becomes the replacements for Looney.

But if he doesn;t work out at another position I see no reason why they should re-sign him. Of course price is the determining factor too, but I cannot imagine he would be asking for much.

I think Williams is either on the verge of re-signing with the C'boys at a rate commensurate for a backup or fairly soon be departing. Best wishes for both Williams and the Cowboys, regardless of what comes of this situation. I do believe he'll eventually be replaced for better results.

Nice for a backup, disappointment as a 2nd round pick to me. Should definitely be a starter but he just doesn't seem to have enough power/size. If he wants big money on next contract, he can walk IMO

A 3-year starter from day 1 is a ‘disappointment’ for a 2nd round pick? Hilarious.

If Williams is a disappointment for a 2nd round pick, what exactly is $20M Lawrence? Hopefully, a humongous disappointment in your eyes.

Connor Williams has been good at times, average some, and bad in games.

Next season will be his last year on his rookie deal.

If we could sign him to a team friendly deal, which we probably could, should we? I'm talking about you and me drafting an email to his agent with a proposed deal thrown in there with the subject line "Contract Extension".

Or should we let him walk and hope he returns us a comp pick for 2023?

I'm thinking he will most likely be headed to a new team after this season.

He just hasn't been the consistent player I hoped he would be, especially since he was a 2nd round pick.

Far from a bust though.
A lot will depend on this season, and of course what kind of deal can be made. If Williams doesn't push for top pay I assume the team will want to keep him, but if guys like McGovern works out, and Biadasz works out well enough Looney is available to provide depth at OG, that could limit how much the Cowboys are willing to pay. I'm also not completely convinced that McGovern wont challenge Williams for the starting role.

I would LOVE for him to sign a huge contract - with the Eagles. As a 2nd round pick he SUCKS!!! In a perfect world a 2nd rounder is almost an elite starter. He isn't that.

All players and the FO get hate on here.

You should probably follow Parcells’ advice and separate the player from the round drafted. 3-Year starter from day 1, beat out all competition, and has played well for the most part.

Williams won the competition in camp. McGovern wasn’t even active the first part of the year and only started to get playing time after injuries if I remember correctly. McGovern did play decently but I did not see any play better than Williams.

McGovern got hurt his whole rookie year and struggled to get playing time this year until injuries and you want to hand the position to him over the player who beat him out in camp?

Nuh. Reread my post dude.

Don’t be a clown. TX loves their own. You know this. I was being partially sarcastic but alas it always offends the softies here.

Jerry is not from Texas, I don't see a bunch of razorbacks on the team either. Williams was drafted because he was highly rated coming out of college. Where a guys went to college does not factor at all in these moves, having said that I think we all know Williams is the weakest link on the OL and I would say the odds of him getting resigned when he hits FA is not great

I hear what you are saying but I don't think he has looked great. Gets bull-rushed a lot. Now in fairness I have not seen him at his college position.

You can’t evaluate a player based on last year. The Oline was a MASH unit. His play this year will determine his worth.
