When I was a kid in Jersey, there was a place that made their own ice cream. They had just plain peanut butter ice cream, and it's still the best ice cream I've ever had. But short of that, peanut butter/ chocolate would be my choice.
Yeah....and what was the name of the place? Long shot, but I have deep roots in Philthy, the shore and Manhattan.

That is the ONLY way vanilla should ever be served. It’s a worthless flavor BUT it’s also the only flavor to go with pie.

I have to disagree because vanilla is the most versatile. It's used for sundae's, banana splits, you can put all sorts of toppings on it and serve it with things. It's not the best flavor, but if I had to pick one it would be vanilla just because of the versatility. Otherwise probably I'd choose either Dutch Chocolate or Cooke dough.

Hahahaha...I appreciate the reply and respectfully disagree although your poin is very valid and I can’t argue with it’s versatility.

So let me ask you this, I’ve actually done a compare side be side...which do you prefer and why?

French Vanilla or Vanilla Bean?

Huh, there used to be a place on the Jersey shore (maybe 60th st) called A La Mode. Best frigging sundaes I’ve ever had, they did ti right.

Still there...but I can’t post the link because that’s against rules

French Vanilla is pretty good even by itself I would say from being a little sweeter vs the standard bean. That slight yellow tint makes you feel less bland lol

I like Vanilla though, and usually get that if there's no cookies n cream or cookie dough; always wondered how do they determine how much cookie dough to put in the ice cream bc it never seems like too much.

I used to work at a snack bar at youth center in my teens and we sold cookie dough by itself for about 2 weeks until someone got really sick. We made cookies, but everyone wanted the frozen cookie dough ball that we got from Otis Spunkenmeyer (sp?, same place as the Subway cookies) before we placed them in the oven and sold it at the same price....a little food poisoning ruined it for everyone ...whimps:laugh:

I have never tried Vanilla Bean so I couldn't say. What are your thoughts on your side by side comparison?

What about flavors not on that list, like Blue Bell Banana Pudding Ice Cream or even Egg Nog Ice cream?

Egg Nog is seasonal and tis not the season.

I find vanilla bean to have less vanilla flavor than the other vanilla's, French, Homemade and Slow Churn. It also has specks of vanilla bean in it and I couldn't stop myself for checking for little legs on the specks.

Butter Pecan is in a class of it’s own. It has been my favorite since I was a kid.

It’s been a long while since I’ve done the side by side but I believe I liked Vanilla Bean by a fair margin. As mentioned above, I believe the french vanilla is slightly sweeter and vanilla bean has more of the authentic vanilla flavor. Speaking of, I need to grab a pint of vanilla ice cream on Sunday because I plan on having apple pie and perhaps a slice of peach pie for my Masters dessert.

I know this is blasphemy but I’m not a huge Blue Bell guy. I much prefer Breyers, especially their mint chocolate chip which is hands down 10x better than Blue Bell. It has more of a real mint flaor and they use decent sized chunks of dark chocolate for the chips as opposed to BB which uses little specks of somewhat flavorless chocolate.

As for other flavors, Blue Bell did have a Pecos cantaloupe flavor for a year or two about 15 years ago but it’s been long since discontinued. If you’re not familiar, Pecos is in far west Texas and has the sweetest, best cantaloupe I’ve ever had in my life. Apparently it has something do do with the climate and soil which is higher in salt IIRC that gives that extra sweetness. They used to be easy to find but a bunch of farmers sold their land to oil companies so now there’s just a handful of people that still grow them. I have to go to a local independent fruit stand to get the ones not mass produced by one of the bigger companies. Anyways, I assume the lac of production is why Blue Bell doesn’t make it anymore. I know the flavor sounds gross but it was incredible and I know a lot of people that weren’t even big cantaloupe fans but loved that ice cream.

Other flavors I enjoy would be any kind of chocolate or double chocolate, butter pecan, chocolate peanut butter, etc. I rarely eat ice cream but I pretty much love every flavor but vanilla (unless with pie or cake) and vanilla based ice creams.

Blue Bell is down my list as well. I like Dreyers and Beyers both better than Blue Bell of the supermarket brands. B&J and HD are still my favorites in vanilla but the local Austin creamery, Amy's, is really good for flavors.

Ha! How ironic, my favorite vanilla is actually Amy’s Mexican Vanilla. Now that’s a quality vanilla worth the price and calories.

Mind too.....
Sorry, you don't count. You started this and only gave us one serving.

Mind too do what? Rethink your selfishness and give us not only more choices but more servings to really be able to make up our minds? Some are already regretting their decisions and this is all your fault!
