It almost seems as if we addressed every level of the defense in the weirdest possible ways. I think what we end up with is a stud at LB, some utility on the DL, and question marks at CB.

Parsons: Home run pick. Great value. Catalytic player right now that still has upside. Limited coverage resume right now, but I have a hard time believing a guy that moves like him cant develop into a coverage LB

Defensive Lineman: Very unexciting here. Odighizuwa fits our defense, and talent wise he is justifiable 3rd pick, but just an underwhelming one. He is a 4T here, and his long reach could really help us in the run game. He has some ability as a pass rusher, but I dont think you are going to get a dynamic guy there. Golston is your quintessential Iowa DL. Hard working hussle player that can get a little bit more than what his athletic profile says he should. However, this is guy is still limited and will probably never offer you much as an edge rusher. Id like him alot more if he was a 4th round guy. However I do have a hard time imagining him not being a contributor. I think utility is the key word for what we got on the DL. Although I do think Odighizuwa can be a plus starter

Secondary: This is were it got really weird. Joseph has tremendous upside, but not alot of tape, and some serious question marks. His limited tape is very good, has good ball production, and all the traits you want in a starting CB, but he is very much a boom or bust prospect. Joseph to me is them overthinking their CB needs after missing on Horn/Surtain. His upside is top 20 pick caliber, with alot of projection and risk. I would have went a different direction, but I hope for the best. Wright is probably the weirdest pick I have seen in 30 years of following the Cowboys. This is a guy you reach a little for in the 5th or 6th because you think you can work with his traits. Taking him 3rd is worse, and much worse than Hill. Thats buying way too much into a coaching staff you havent even worked with yet

I would have to say this was one of the most frustrating and disappointing drafts I have EVER witnessed. Everything was right there for a grand slam home run draft. Cowboys nailed the first round as usual and then everything just fell off the cliff. Only hope is that the CB can stay out of trouble and is as good as Diggs. Two starters is all I see us getting out of this draft. Could have been sooo much better.

Moehrig and McNeil and Barmore sitting for us on small trade ups.

I can see three if Joseph works out. I think Odighizuwa will be a Marcus Spears type starter. You can still pull good players out of the 4th, but Im not optimistic right now

Agree 100%. Thought they could have moved up a bit and gotten lot better players.

12. Micah Parsons (LB)
41. Trevon Moehrig (S) (44 + 138)
71. Aaron Robinson (CB) (75 + 179) or Kelvin Joseph
72. Alim McNiel (DT) (84 + 115)
96. Ronie Perkins (99 + 192)

Granted we'd then only have a 6ths and a 7th left but I'd feel infinitely better about that group of players or even if we just made one of those moves.

Exactly. I like the draft overall but could’ve came out way better to this point. Every pick after the 3rd is going to be a project.

Still need to watch tape on the linemen, but Parsons is risky, Joseph is hugely risky, and I'm not sure if that 3rd round CB was draftable.

These 3rd rounders stink of coaches pets IMO. No exciting workout scores, no huge collegiate production, and their draft board rankings make it look like other e-scouts weren't exactly blown away by their film. But a high-effort team captain, a super long CB for the guy who "invented" the 6'3" Hawk-press CB... those are the kind of guys coaches can get suckered into. It's like Rod Marinelli and a twitched-up 3T who says he'll hustle really hard. Quinn can't help himself.

And personally, I have no clue why we didn't trade up for Moehrig. You have three 3rds, and the guys you've targeting are expected to go even later than that... package one and go get your guy. I think Jerry and co wanted to play it cool and scoop Diggs Pt 2 for a huge steal, then they got jumped at the last second and panicked. Instead of packaging a 2 + 3 and getting your guy, you burn that #2 on a mega bust risk and burn the #3 on a 6th round DE. Awesome job guys.

Well this certainly hasnt been the sexiest of drafts. Hard to accept this years draft after last years haul. Imma give the creator of the Legion of Boom the benefit of the doubt that he knows exactly what he needs to build his defense before jumping off the cliff.

I'd imagine that if Moehrig fell to 44, Cowboys were still set on taking Joseph.
I have no clue why Dallas hates safeties.

It was reported they had a deal with ATL to move up to 36 but when Tyson Campbell came off the board at 33 they backed out. I have to think if they were high on any of these safeties they wouldn't have backed out once Campbell was off the board.

Heck, I know very little about these guys. OSA seems like a guy who I would be happy with with our late fourth. Gholston maybe a fifth. Both appear to be quality players, but guys who don't really stand out as pros. I have no idea on Wright. If that was the result of OSA and Gholston drafted later with 2-3 solid third round picks, then things could have gotten interesting.

Time will tell. Their results on the field will be the ultimate grade. It just feels like so far most of these guys will be around for a little but not really difference makers.

Wouldn’t have had any of our selections as my first choice. I can’t hate on the picks; though the Wright guy is a big leap of faith.

We could have easily moved up for Moehrig, and still used our third rounders on Melifonwu, and gotten a starting corner and safety, and then still got Golston and Wright on Saturday.

Perplexing

-I'm fine with Joseph at 44, although risky, but talented.
-The third rd was not good. The two Defensive Lineman were taken a rd earlier, more role players that offer zero rush abilities. The corner many had as an undrafted fa, they took him in the top 100. If they are going to use a comp pick like this, rather sign a fa.

At least those guys would have a chance to see the field and fill some holes. Hopefully, Joseph pans out.

Jerry loves to talk about being a gambler then he turns into a little girl on draft night more often than not.
