A 4.3 LB with extreme ball recognition, get oof blocks
He will be in zone 98% of the time on coverage. If people are expecting him to turn and run with three hill, that is misusing his position.

Coverage will be fine. I'm still worried how he doesn't get triple teamed as OL cakewalk to the 2nd level

I’d say the 2 biggest keys for our defense next season is LVE’s health and finding a FS that can cover some ground when the ball is in the air.

Side question... The Raiders just drafted 3 safeties.. Do they have anyone we can trade for?

I’m over the RKG culture.

Just thug it up.. Dak is the face of the franchise anyways and he can give the shiny company line that people identify the Cowboys as.

The rest of the team just needs to be good at football. We love our 90s Cowboys and at the time I’d say they weren’t RKG types.

As long as the "thugs" keep it to the field. That's what worries me about character issues. Without strong coaching or a strong-coaching personality or a sudden influx of maturity, thugs can't keep their thuggery confined to the field.

If they can do that, thug away. ;)

Unfortunately we are really banking on Kazee to be fully back from his Achilles injury.

if he isn’t, we are going to be in trouble in the deep middle of the field.

Look at the Josh Ball pick.. Great talent.. He gets kicked out of FSU and has to go to Marshall and we get great talent at swing tackle for cheap and that’s a big position of need.

Take advantage of the thug falling in the draft..

I don’t think stopping the run is a talent issue.. 75% effort and 25% scheme. Guys at this level should be good run defenders by default.

If we get through the gauntlet of QBs it takes to win a championship then I will celebrate every time they turn around and hand the ball off.

Stopping the run is hugely dependent on instincts. One wrong step and a LB is boxed out with no hope of recovery.

It also requires physicality.

There were questions about Simmons' instincts and physicality vs the run just like there are questions about Parsons' instincts in coverage.

Obviously in the modern era, off-ball LBs must be good in coverage.

The reason that coverage is a question mark, is because he was used to attack forward and had limited opportunities in coverage.

If he has any problems in coverage, it's not going to be due to lack of athletic ability. His type of speed greatly increases the margin for error in coverage.
- If he has any coverage issues it will be due to the mental side of it, not a lack of physical ability.

LBs don't play the same type of coverage as CBs or even Safeties. CBs play on a island where they have to mirror WRs. LBs play in a crowded area and most often play zone. If they play man, it is normally just man in a short area.

In the Dan Quinn type defense, LBs generally play zone even when CBs play man. KJ Wright has been decent in coverage and there is nothing physically that Wright can do better than Parsons.

Von Miller played LB in a 4-3 for his first 4 years (Denver switched to 3-4 when Wade was hired as DC). Nobody really cared if VM was elite in coverage...

This is one of the things I think Parsons has shown a lot of promise with.

when he is covering backs and TE’s in the short zone. He has shown decent awareness, and his speed and explosiveness allows him to break on the ball and get in there to contest the catch.

At least thats what I’ve seen with his short zone coverage ability.

Mine is trenches and safety, the latter being minimized since 2000

The RKG culture was always about the way guys approached the game. It was never about Boy Scouts. There were just too many interpretations going around on this board.

One thing that jumps out on tape is his closing speed, when he gets a lane to the QB it looks like everybody else goes in slow motion except him. Hope Quinn will keep him near the line of scrimmage. I'm sure he can cover even if it is not a strength. He played DE and RB in high school.

According to Lavar Arrington he is. I thought some of you would enjoy this.

Fast forward to 5:30 into the video.

I'm kind of glad we got Parsons instead of the CB in the first. I wasn't big on a CB in the first. I wanted them to get one in the 2nd.

Only if we're convinced they got rid of their off-field thugduguration. ;)

Couple comments. Daniel Jeremiah is on record as saying Parsons can cover TEs and RBs and claims the video shows it.

I got the impression that DQ is going to run Parsons ragged on the coverage side, just from his recent video.

The rest of this is inference on my part, looking at John Owning tweets. He thinks Parson's best position is MLB. I suspect we can rush him,
use him as a LEO, but another way of using him in the rush is as a SAM and blitzing, out of the 4-2 under. DLaw and Parsons on the same side.. :D

And if he becomes a starting three down MLB, then he can occasionally split the A gap.

I had a dream last night that DE Chauncey Golston is a combination of Randy White and Reggie White.
I know you can't tell a whole lot from highlights but if you watch his highlights on youtube, there is nearly fifteen minute of highlights. There isn't any fluff in the video like some. Solid highlights for 15 minutes, he is a worker.
