We throw a lot of stuff away. There are some things, however, that can improve your life if you hang onto them.
The problem:
About a zillion cords under your computer work desk, and you can't keep track of which is which.
The item: Ordinary bread bag clips that normally come with a loaf of bread.

I'm not talking about the twisty metal things for holding a bread back shut. I mean the plastic clips that most bread companies use and that you get free with a loaf, much like these ones:

The strategy: Don't throw these away. Collect them in a zip lock bag or someplace until you have a good collection. Then use them to label all the cords going into your electronic devices like computers, stereos, etc. You can easily write on these tags with the right kind of writing instrument such as a fine-point Sharpie.

I have a computer for which I use a lot of peripherals. I have two USB hubs built into my desk, and I use three external hard drives. Plus, I have a printer, and a KVM switch. I still use a wired keyboard. The mouse is wireless. However, when I crawl under my desk with a flashlight to make any adjustments, I easily know what each cord is for because each one is labeled by one of those bread clips. They're all different colors as well, so once I know which one is for the printer or USB hub #1, etc., I easily know which is which.

That's my recommended life hack. Your turn. Post your info about an ordinary item that you reuse to make life more convenient.

Cool trick, but I've always just used masking tape.
