Twitter: Zeke Elliott on his failed red zone TD attempt

Both things can be true.

Jarwin should at least be able to hold off the block and put in any amount of effort to get that done. And Zeke should be able to win 1v1 against a safety.

If either of them do their job, it's a TD.

several mistakes on this play, obviously Jarwin and his whiff. the guy has no idea on how to even set up for a block. he was straight up, with his feet right under him that didn't give him any strong base to get a push or be able to move laterally and he tries to set up on the wrong side of the defender. I mean you are in freaking NFL, just got paid handsomely, at least learn your craft a little. you are a TE and you should know basic blocking.

Zeke should have realized he is not going to win that foot race to the corner, as he said ball was also in the wrong hand. you are a big RB, so he should have gone north-south and try to plow his way through, minimally get closer to the end zone and give us a chance perhaps to go for it on 4th down. If you look you see Schultz (I think that's who it is) who was the inside shoulder of Jarwin, sets up real nice for the block, turns his body, has a nice base and holds his guy. if Zeke turned north-south and plowed he might have had a better angle because at that point jarwin was in position to block the DB....

lots of stupidity on this play. our players aren't very smart.

No question.. Zeke's mistake was being patient and trying to be "nifty" and "nimble" when he should have reverted to "plodding" and "straightahead" Zeke and run right at the guy. You don't always have to make a guy miss to gain yards. Sometimes you just need to play some big boy football. It doesn't just apply to the offensive line. The backs and receivers need to hear that message as well. One thing I didn't notice until today is that the DB already had Jarwin beat before Zeke ever got the ball. Again this harkens back to my disdain for the option play in this situation. Zeke's first step is to open up and the next two steps are moving back away from the line of scrimmage. The play took away his power.. Why do that? The guy's a north-south runner.. why FORCE him to run east-west?

No, the TB defender made a good play. He read it right from the start, his eyes on Zeke the whole time, running to the outside, which is why Jarwin “whiffed” on the play.

Interesting. Jarwin could have made the block, and Zeke can win 1:1 matchup. Another example of where multiple things can be true at the same time.
This exactly. Zeke needing to get the ball into his outside hand and fight through the DB is the only thing within Zeke's control on that play. Good on him for recognizing that and taking ownership of it. Doing so doesn't mean that Jarwin did his job, because he didn't.

so here is the difference between being smart and not being smart. smart thing would have been to put pollard instead of zeke, given you were trying to run wide and needed the speed. again, wrong personnel grouping.....perhaps pollard with his speed would have made the corner....who knows.

Or call a run off the Left Tackle you know your best OL man.

I noticed the ball in the wrong hand during the game. It felt like he didn’t really care. I thought he should have tried to outrun the db and get around the corner to try and dive for the pylon.

Yeah if you look at that play Tyron pushed his man a couple of yards off the ball. Problem was just about every other blocker missed.. Of course the DE was unblocked because he was the option man but the linebacker to the play side came free and of course the safety got around Jarwin with very little resistance. The DE fell trying to change direction after the pitch but the LB closed off any cutback thoughts as did Winfield the other safety. The only chance for success was going to be outside which is why Jarwin was supposed to get on his man and stay on him.. not tap him in the chest and then watch him go blow up the play.

I just noticed that even though the pitch took place outside the hash marks the ball was snapped from closer to the right hash so it was actually NOT a short side option. So I owe Moore an apology at least for thinking that he called the pitch to the short side of the field. He tried to run it wide but did so with the worst blocking TE on the roster having responsibility for the key block.. So he was only half dumb.

Like everything else in football or life. You gotta want it. Clearly Jarwin didn't. Another NFL business decision:facepalm:

Ice ---you know if coach was Jimmy or Parcells....Jarwin sitting for game on bench or cut

You failed in Philly as well in the red zone when the NFCE title was on the line. In fact, you sat yourself out. Excuses getting old Zeke. Especially for the amount of money your getting paid.

Both are right.

Jarwin should have made a better block and Zeke should have been able to fight off a DB.

no Zeke just covering as good teammate for Jarwin....Zeke cannot make square cuts anymore ...they are all rounded off....all Jarwin had to do was get in front of db at a left angle....his massage he gave db was pathetic

Elliott is right, he could have done more but anyone with a brain could see it was mostly the combination of a great defensive play and an absolute garbage block.

mr IN---why they have Jarwin blocking when you got Shutlz who is real good blocker????...Jarwin never known for good blocking...ever...see that is mis-management of personnel

Shultz was there and yes, he got his "inside" seal block. Jarwin just didn't execute nor did Zeke put himself in the best position with his angle. If either happen, we probably aren't talking about this play.

Ronnie---thanks for X's & O's analogy...appreciate it....it just so ticks me off...it must be my age of getting older or that they changed my meds....but i think i move into the realm of psycopath when cowboys do

stupid stuff.....i fantasize about smashing any and all objects in my house and that would bring Hell down on me from wifey.....i am so sick of DLaw now because amount he is paid...not necessarily his performnace

did you see old man Chandler for Arizona whom we could have gotten couple years ago in free agency but we thought too old and pricey get 5 sacks and he almost 33....he gets double and triple teamed

all the time and only goes to the pro bowl and all pro....first sick of hearing how good DLaw is in run game but no sacks and he gets injured a lot too....paying him guaranteed north of 20 mil a year

and Zeke and linebacker Smith...but i will say Zeke is worth money staying back to block...he is a Monster blocker in pass game and Dak going to need it....thanks for letting me ramble i talked myself

down off the ledge

WHAT??? It’s what this team needs more of ….. Jarwin ****** us out of a W with that PPP effort. Zeke still should’ve scored but 90%+ of the failure on that play was Jarwin’s.

You address that in the locker room, not in the media. Throwing your teammates under the bus is amateur hour.

if i was Jarwin i would hang head low walking into TE room....and hang a sign on me ...i am a shmuck choosing to give DB a massage instead of half way decent block
