The D played poorly in the 1st quarter, but played much better in Q2 and Q3. Q4 they had a chance to close out the game, but miscommunication on the back end almost cost them the game. This defense does have it faults, but is also making more plays than we've seen in a while.

I would call them inconsistent. There are times they flash elite defensive play then others they leave a wide open gap for runs, receiver, or miss what should be an easy tackle. Getting Lawrence, Gallimore, and Wilson back should help a lot. The rest it's hard to say where we'll improve outside of growth among the young guys. We should look into 1techs, lbs, and corners during the bye week.

Yes.

For now, I hope DQ finds and meshes the players currently
available and make it work and then some, They do need to
improve. I think Bigs Bohanna could use some veteran help
advice and tutoring.

If we are getting gashes on runs. The priority should be DT.

True. What we're seeing is growing pains. The defense is young. They need more experience. Could we use a few more players on defense? Sure, but people are not giving the young guys a chance to develop before saying "These guys need help!"

Diggs was thinking another pick 6 and took the bait. Based on the replay I could not for the life of me understand why the safety didn't blow up the receiver...he just kinda floated past the receiver.

One thing they need to do is quit rotating the safeties. I'd go with Wilson and Hooker most of the time. Hooker at free. Dallas also needs a true run stuffer. I think we'll get better when Hill and Gallimore get back. Also Tank is a great run stopper at DE. The biggest thing killing us IMO is the linebacker play. We have NO linebackers who can close in on a hole and hit the runner as he goes through it. Parson, LVE, or Kazee...none of them. I'd also toy with the idea of moving Brown to the slot and moving Joseph to the outside if he proves better then Brown. And move Mukuamu back to corner. Obviously you haven't learned from your Byron Jones mistake. :facepalm:

The safety kinda drifted because he and 2/3 of this defense are poor tacklers. He didn't trust himself to make the one on one tackle.

I think there's two trades that could improve this team as we speak.
Veteran Joe Haden of the Steelers.
And
Grady Jarrett and Matt Hennessey from the Falcons.

This would easily fix some of the common issues we have on the field.

We don't have a beefy DT to stop the run game. We need a C who can actually hold them selves in the middle. And a Veteran CB who can teach some of the younger guys the ropes and help hold down a spot on the Roster.
Even if they move Brown to Nickle and Let Haden play CB 2 that wouldn't be bad.
But those are what we should be looking at
