I did that to my dad when I was young, except I was more creative and somewhat mean.

I wrapped 5 boxes one inside another. One by one he opened a box and laughed.

By the 5th box he was losing some of his enthusiasm and seemed relieved to finally find something in the box that was not another box.

The 5th box contained a folded note that said, "Your card is taped to the bottom of the first box." :D :D

I had taped his card (which included a gift card) to the bottom of the first box but inside of the wrapping paper.

I once did something similar, except instead of a box in a box in a box, etc., I put a note inside each box with a hint of where to find the next box.

Looks like that is a spiral staircase.

The dog probably has arthritis or hip displasia (more common in larger breeds but small dogs get it too) and it's less painful push up with it's front paws to get up the stairs.

It's not a spiral staircase, it just has a turn at the bottom. Also, the dog went up the second step just fine, so I think it's just that he's giving himself more space to work with.
