Any further Zuerlein disrespect and I won't be able to hold our ST Coach back.

He was great. Consistently effective in his job. Would love to have him back
If I’m putting the tag in anyone it’s him. - A true weapon
Throughout the season - after numerous short (3 & out) and stalled (penalties) drives by the Cowboys - Anger flipped the field position enough so that opposing offenses didn't have too many short and quick chances to score.

Can the Cowboys afford to pay a punter?

Even if he was one of the most valuable players this season?

This is actually a pretty good punter draft class - a couple guys that might even project for the third or fourth round. One being labeled a generational type punter.

Chris Jones was quite a good punter for a while. Yes, we definitely held on to him a year or two too long, but the comments suggesting that he sucked or that the team has never bothered to obtain a strong punter are off base.

With Zuerlein being ranked in the lower 3rd in the league in field goal percentage, there are a couple UFA kickers out there that can upgrade the position Koo, the Falcons FA and old man Folk are both available and are among the tops in field goal percentage.

It's quite amazing that Folk is kicking better than he ever has, especially since he's doing it in New England. He's only missed one from inside the 50 the last two years. He did miss quite a few extra points, though.

……those Point after attempts have been quite a problem for some of these guys. The new distance has made that extra point anything but automatic

Even at his best, Chris Jones was never more than an average punter. Last couple years was borderline criminal.

The nature of the punter - or any other position- in the NFL.
All players come into the league among many others; many succeed; a good number become outstanding; a few become dominant - great.
Then: either age, injury, physce (along with other downfalls)....they all are reduced to becoming expendable on a team roster.

Yeah, reviewing the stats I may be remembering him as better than he was. Maybe a little Mat McBriar was getting conflated with Jones in my head?

Jones owns the team record for net yardage in a postseason game (47.5 against Detroit). He was third in the league in net yardage for the season in 2015. His angled punts helped him place a lot inside the 20, having the second-most in team history in a season in 2017.

There were several seasons when he was much better than average, which is why we kept him. His production fell hard in 2019 due to injuries and we replaced him in 2020 after he went on injured reserve. I don't know why fans have to exaggerate a player's ineffectiveness to try to make a point.

This is from 2017:

Jones had a career-best 34 punts downed inside the 20-yard line (second in team history), while registering a 41.4-yard net and a 44.1-yard gross average. He contributed to limit opponents to 75 punt return yards on the year - the fewest allowed in the league since the Atlanta Falcons yielded 49 yards in 2008 and the second-fewest in team history (41 yards in 1972).

2015 was his best year and he was middle of the pack. No matter which stat you compare, he was average at best. 2017 was his second best year and he was 26th in average and his net average was 7th, which is explained by his short punts being fair caught majority of time. Again, stats prove he was average at best even during his best years.

Bryan Anger. After watching Jones punt like a high schooler for years it was eye opening to see what an NFL punter can do for field position.
How much of this season was an anomaly? It was by far his best season since his rookie year in 2012. The last time he signed a long term contract he proceeded to kick for about the same average as Jones the following 3 years. He’d be nice to resign but I’m not making him the highest paid punter in the league and especially without some easy outs in the contract!

Many say the Cowboys' salary cap limitation is a myth (reference the Packers, Saints).
However number of loopholes \ manipulations Dallas can do to free up $$$ to retain Anger...
DO IT
