Time to finally address 1 tech w/ this monster athletic freak.

DT Jordan Davis, Georgia
340-pound defensive tackles usually aren’t high on the draft board because they don’t offer the pass-rushing athleticism that other guys in the trenches do. This is why Davis has been projected as a late first-rounder in many mocks. That might have changed because on Saturday he dazzled. He ran a 4.78 40-time which was ranked second for DTs, jumped 32 inches (also second), and had the longest broad jump of any other defensive tackle at 10’3”. That is simply insane. Make no mistake about it, this big guy can move!

What this means for the Cowboys: Davis should be in the conversation at 24.

Would not be opposed if he is still around at 24.

IMO any hope of him falling is now gone. Some team will convince themselves with his showing at the combine that he can develop into a 3 down force in time.

One thing if he ran/10 yd split/jumped like a guy his size should do but he came out and showed he has some crazy athletic ability for a 340lb DT.

Makes sense to me, especially if Dean and Green are gone which I expect them to be.

I just don't think they will do it.

They refuse to properly address 1 tech. They tried w/ Poe and that was a disaster and drafted Bohana in the 6th round last year.Maybe Bohana can show some improvement in year 2.

My concern with all the impressive numbers is why they didn't translate at the college level with lesser competition. Read yesterday he on the field for only 28-30% ( not sure exact No ) Georgia third down plays. Don't get me wrong, the 40-yard dash speed is impressive, no question but as one GM put it, he will never use it in the NFL, especially in shorts (lol)

That is probably what their lazy thinking is, and will pass on Davis if available.

If he is there, I bet they would pass on a trade, and take an OL.
We need OL, but we need Davis more. At least at #24. Take an Ol in the 2nd or 3rd round.

He might go top 10 after what he did at the combine.

I wanted him and thought there was a small chance he'd fall to our pick, but he gone now.

They’d much rather draft a tackle, to slide into guard that they can push to tackle in a few years (Penning). Makes me want to barf.

Also have to remember, Quinn loves to run out of the nickel which would keep Davis off the field

I was thinking this the other day, watching the OL run their 40's.
How often do OL and DL really need to run even 20 yards or more at full speed. Most the time no more than 5 to 10 yards for run blocking, and then that is not really running.

It is almost a useless stat for evaluation, except how athletic they may be.
Maybe a DL more so that an OL, if hey are chasing down a player to tackle. I guess in pass rush, to chase down a QB. Especially now days with all the mobile QB's.

If they want a guard, draft a guard.Simple. Not some too-lite tackle w/ no power to move to guard(ala CW.)

I'd love to get him, but it feels like a trade up may be required to do so. If there is one way to screw up this draft it feels like its through a trade up. It'll be interesting to see where he is mocked at in the coming weeks.

What if Cooper is released or traded, Wilson leaves as a FA, and even if they do sign Gallup. He may not be ready for the season (it is what this team does)
And Chris Olave or Garrett Wilson is there at WR. Do they pass on DT and OL to take a speed WR. With Olave running a 4.26 in the 40. that is the type of speed this team has lacked for years.

I know Cooper was to have speed. But has anyone really seen that speed since the Washington game when he 1st arrived.

That is is a concern, Clearly he will be required to play a lot more snaps that what he got in college.

Coop coming into the league was 4.42. Don’t know about that now w/ nagging injuries and playing at about 15 lbs. heavier. It’s all going to depend on who we sign in FA being our own or others. Can’t wait to find out though. But, would love a sub 4.4 guy to stretch the field, especially on play-action.

He was the top player mentioned in the preseason Heisman talk and failed to play enough snaps to even get decent stats.

This is a team needing to ride its defense in order to get to the Big Dance and he's not in on 50% of the D snaps? Does that make sense?

Every GM is going to be asking why a physical specimen like Jordan Davis doesn't play more just as I was as I watched UGA throughout the year. What's the endurance and stamina report on him because he was building a case for draft position and money this year and played less than Clowney did his last season at South Carolina.

The Cowboys do not need part-time defensive players.
