So this is expanded from the Streaming Thread. Some of you may have seen HBO Max's new show Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. It's based on Jeff Pearlman's book which covers the Hollywood Lakers as they take the dying NBA from the 1970's into the 80's and everyone knows what happened from there. Major roles in that include Magic, Kareem, Jerry West, Jerry Buss and Family, Pat Riley, Chick Hearn, Red Auerbach, David Stern, pretty much a who's who of the NBA during that period.
If you're not aware, Jeff Pearlman also wrote a famous book about the Dallas Cowboys years after the 90's dynasty and it had a lot of the same themes as the Lakers dynasty book -- Owner uses all his money to buy his lifelong sports dream, franchise that has fallen on hard times and can't win the big one, famous coach who has lost it drama, legendary players who are too involved in the party lifestyle, newer sexier cheerleaders, etc... Basically the rise of the NBA into the entertainment mecca it is now, which I think anyone could say about the Cowboys too as it launched the NFL into today's machine. John Madden is forever associated with that dynasty, a lot of local media made their name on that team and breaking stories, Jerry broke the rule book on merchandising and sponsors, this is where Cowboys ratings forever dominated.
For those who have seen the Laker show, you'll know it's easier to cast a smaller NBA team, but who would you cast in the Dallas Cowboys roles if HBO Max did the same format for the Cowboys book?
You have these famous figures to cast. Some obviously have much bigger roles.
