For Dak Prescott, What A Difference A Year Makes

Have at it..

This time last year, Dak Prescott felt a different type of excitement about the game of football -- a "completely different" perspective, he said.

Last April, he was just starting to work back into football activities after undergoing two surgeries to repair his 2020 ankle injury that sidelined him for the final 11 games that season.

This April, as the Cowboys start their voluntary workout program, Prescott's feeling "pumped up" about his first fully healthy offseason in two years -- and really, his first normal offseason work since 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic restricted access at team facilities.

I remember that. An amazing performance at QB Dak against the defending champs throwing for 400 yards and 3 TD's.

The pathetic Zeke was a side not at 3.1 ypc. 11 rushes for 33 yards.

Que the Zeke juking cones videos!

This is a very important off season for Zeke. He needs to see if he can come back from his knee injury and be effective and available for an entire 17 game season.

You know the defenders are coming for him this year, and they are going to test his toughness week after week.

It's the defences in weeks 9-17 that are really going to tee off on him. The opposition from weeks 1-8 are going to be softening and testing him. It's the latter half that will be itching to see what he has left in the tank for the second half.

No, but it's not his fault, he doesn't have enough talent around him.

Yeah, he made mistakes. Something went wrong with him last season. But it's a new season. As long as he works on his game and fixes what went wrong, what more can you ask? It's not like we get a choice either way. I'm going to lambaste him when he messes up big time and praise him when he kicks butt.

Did things happen that hurt his game? Sure. The O-line had issues. Moore went inexplicable Garrett in play-calling, but that doesn't mean something wasn't wrong with Dak. The evidence is there on tape. If he did nothing in the off-season to fix it, then there's a problem. There is no evidence of that though, so we'll see what comes when the season gets rolling. But I'm not holding out hope for the team until they start consistently beating teams with winning records and can do so into January...then actually play like a playoff team in the playoffs.

I don't think they're capable and I think the reason is Jerry and his culture. So all we can do is sit back and hope they get lucky.

Did Moore figure out defenses yet. That is the real issue.

Moore is there because Dak wants him there, just like Romo was “satisfied “ with Garrett. The QB does not want to be challenged and taught which is what he really needs. The guy gets flustered, does not throw until the receiver turns and is open and when DCs changed after Denver he was unable to adapt and resorts to constant check downs because he’s scared of making a mistake. These are all signs that he can’t read defenses. Mechanics are off where he does not step up and often throws lazily without setting his feet even though he has time. A real OC and HC would challenge him a correct these deficiencies but he does not want that. Yes there are other factors but a BIG chunk is on the QB.

It's all good news this year for Dak -- here's hoping his body holds up better than it did the last 2 years. He'll be another year along in experience, so that, in itself, should help his cause if all goes well with his readiness. He has much work to do with the mental part of his development.

Let's see if the coaches can impart what he needs to improve his ability to read defenses and adjust accordingly. He'll need that to get the ball out in a timely manner. Let's also hope the pass protection improves noticeably, with some sound decisions being made in the upcoming draft.

Lol. There are countless videos of him threading the needle, throwing guys open, and making some incredible throws. It’s not that he can’t. It’s that he’s inconsistent in doing so.

That sounds right.

I would add he is slightly hesitant at times....almost a lack of confidence in his arm, which he should probably trust a little more than he apparently does.

Thing I notice with him, and not just last year when he was clearly playing to not get hurt after NE, when his legs are removed as a threat, his game takes a bit of a nose dive.
