Mickey writes about Bell and Vasher and making the team.
Some decent info.

I know there have been threads about them, but here is some more insight.
I knew Vasher was a larger WR, but did not realize he is 6-6. We need that height for the red zone.
Bell also has some size to him, which is what I like at one of the S spots.

I still wonder why Bell was an UDFA, but maybe this explained why somewhat.

Both of these guys are freakish athletes, but we've always had freakish athletes and it's gotten us nowhere. I want big physical players now, for a change of pace. So I'm hoping we keep WR Brandon Smith and SS Juanyeh Thomas over Vasher and Bell.

Just my preference, just my opinion.

Vasher intrigued me last year...reminded me of a Plaxico Burress type of player. Would be a boon if he makes the jump this year...

Bell has a much more chance to stick than Vasher IMO….

totally agree. In fact, I think Bell makes it. He has some “it” to him.
No idea on Vasher but his size and highlight reel catches are intriguing. I think the knock on him was always heart and sounds like he has been working really hard so who knows.

Bell being a player out of a HBCU probably factored into it.
However --from Spagnola's article, the rookie received a good deal from the Cowboys.

Sounds like Bell is a player they are looking at using like they use Kearse… good size, can tackle and cover TEs. Looking fwd to seeing him in TC

Physicality in the team is needed than athletes, as 49ers proved, physical players especially in the lines make the game go easier in the 2nd half.

It's not difficult to see why Bell was a UDFA if you look at his overall resume and lack of experience:
  • 2016: High School Senior. Played QB
  • 2017: Suspended from Maryland for the entire season.
  • 2018: Community College.
  • 2019: Florida A&M
  • 2020: Season cancelled due to Covid
  • 2021: Florida A&M
  • Summary:
    • Only played 2 seasons and that was at a small college.
    • Character question mark with the suspension.
    • Slightly over-aged. Will be 24 by the end of the 2022 NFL season.
    • Primary take from scouting reports: "Lacks ideal fluidity for coverage"
His success is dependent on how he is used in a defensive scheme.
- Bell seems like a faster, but not quite as tall version of Kearse.
- The lack of fluidity was also an issue with Kearse, but in the role Quinn defined for him, that issue is minimized.
