1 Competent coaches and front office
2 Top championship level Defense
3 Stronger support cast and scheme around Dak
4 Win trench battles on both side of line
5 Key Depth and Special Teams

1) Defense - A championship level, rated Defense that shows up big in playoffs - one that changes how offense want to play; team 'out-physical " us.
Quinn has the turnover moe going, now what about being "out-physical " ?

2) Competent coaches and front office.
a) i.e teams know /figure out how to counter scheme us both sides of ball; is
b) needs coaches that adjust in game both sides of the ball; and best utilize their personnel (ala RB)
c) i.e. FO- Rams get even strong with add on of Wagner; where did we Cowboys get stronger in FA ?

3) Superior cast around Dak - He needs some areas to hide/overcome defiences and be more effective than what he is .

4) Win Trenches - Team trying to add more " physical" players ala Tyler and Bridgeway, but not much per FA.
TE in line gonna still be a minus ?

5) Depth/Special Teams - if Dak concussed, sprains or ham-pull, can backups step up ? When Tyron gets injured, do we have the swings ?
what about the FG kicker ?.. punt returner ?

So.....If we have a "Superior Offense,Superior Defense, and a Superior OL and Depth/Special Teams......Seriously who did not know that?

You've been jacked up for 26 seasons but this season will be diff?
Right you are, guvnor, right you are.

So because we never coached we should not have opinions?
...
Putin wants you to return his call ...:muttley:
An opinion is like an @$$hole. We all have one, and they all stink.

Tired of reading all the doom and gloom posts that this forum is inundated with. You know the usual cast of characters that are Chicken Littles and Negative Nancies and gleefully post about the futility of the Dallas Cowboys. If anyone writes anything positive about the team, they quickly move to douse any enthusiasm via sarcasm or belittlement of the OP.
Well, first of all, I would like to say that the Dallas Cowboys really could win the whole thing. This year. Not five or ten years down the road. This year. We all watched the Iggles win it in 2017 when they had no business winning it with so many starters out. We all watched numerous second tier teams eke into the playoffs by a thread, catch fire and go on to hoist the Lombardi.
So I want to talk about what has to happen for our Boys to get to the promised land and bring us home number six. And I know that the doom and gloomers will say things like' if my aunt has balls she'd be my uncle' and 'I'll have whatever he's smoking' but I am gonna lay it out anyway. And the list is short. That's the important thing. We have the ability to win the whole thing. Again, despite the knuckleheads on this board that say otherwise. So here goes:
1.) Our offensive line becomes formidable. Terence Steele continues to improve. Tyler Smith balls out and becomes the lineman we hope he will be. Badass continues to improve at center. All of Mcgovern's hard work in the off-season shows on the field. Tyron Smith stays relatively healthy. This would open up the running game and make us less reliant of the passing game, keep the defense off balance and help to kill the clock. All of this being said, this is the hardest one to come to fruition because of all the moving parts and the health of Tyron. But it could happen.
2.) The defense takes another step forward from last year. This would require Micah to be just as good or better, Lawrence to stay healthy, Jabril Cox to become a playmaking LB, at least one of our DTs; Gallimore, Osi, Bohanna, Hill or Ridgeway to become a real force in the middle. We have to stop the run. If one of these guys emerges than that will go a long way toward that goal. And, lastly, we will need someone at right defensive end to both stop the run and be able to get pressure on the QB. This could be an individual or by committee. I am hoping Sam Williams will be that guy by the end of the season but Gholston showed flashes and Armstrong has been steadily improving. Fowler is a wild card that has the ability so I will not rule him out.
3.) Dak Prescott becomes a top 5 quarterback. In my mind, he is already that if you just look at stats. He completed almost 69% of his passes last year. 37 TDs. 104 QB rating. This coming off a gruesome injury the previous season that limited his mobility and probably helped to cause the injuries to he accumulated last year. This year he has to become more of a threat to run. He has definitely slimmed down so that should help. If the defense thinks he's a threat to run, it will open up the field for his throws on the run which he is already one of the best in the game at. He also must be more clutch. In his first two years in the league, he was one of the best at winning games in the fourth quarter. Lately, not so much though the New England game comes to mind and when they won last year, they led most of the way. But he needs to show the team that, even when they are down in a game, that they can come back and win at the end. They need that confidence.
Will all of this happen? I don't know. But what I do know that it is not as bleak as the aforementioned knuckleheads would have you believe it is. I believe in Micah. I believe in Dan Quinn. I believe in Ceedee. I believe in Dak. I believe in building a team through the draft, especially when I believe we have a guy who knows how to draft. Lastly, I believe we have as much of a chance of winning the whole thing as any other team out there. And I like those odds.
I feel realistically we can contend if injuries are at a low and Smith is a good addition to the offensive line and Williams fills the void of RG leaving. If our defense can stay at the same level with TOs and improve in run defense then we have a contending caliber defense. If our offensive line can protect Dak then we will score aot of points. I have a lot of faith in Quinn, a little faith in McCarthy and not much faith in Moore. But I don't feel coaching is bad enough to hold us back if the offensive line improves and the run defense improves.

I've said this before and I'll say it a 1000 times. Dak is at his best in the 2 minute drill. People will say that's when he gets his "garbage time stats ". I'm not a huge fan of Dak but the whole garbage time stats is a false narrative IMO. Dak is at his best when the offense is in no huddle and the defense can not get comfortable. Also if Dak has less time to think he seems to he more effective. If I had one wish for the Cowboys is they would employ a full time no huddle offense like the Bills did in the early 90s. I feel if we did that our offense would he really hard to stop, then the defense can sit back and feast on TOs.

"I'm tired of those who have been right for 26 straight years. Here's why the 27th year is totally different."

It could be worse. It took the Chiefs 57 years to win their first NFL Championship.

"The Catch" didn't even win that playoff game for them. A strip sack by SF's D is what beat us. Pat Board, I believe it was.

Pillars strip sacked him. Stuckey, or something like that recovered. The exact same type strip sack the Raiders did to Tom Brady. It came out when Danny was kind of pulling it back.

In the previous Cowboys possession, WR Doug Donley drops a 3rd and 5 pass that would have given the Cowboys a 1st down at around the 49ers 40 yard line. Yeah I know, who the hell is that? If he catches that pass the Cowboys most likely eat up most of the clock.

If Ferguson turns into Gronk, Tolbert turns into Kupp, and Zeke finds third Gear I believe we can win it. Lol

It could be worse. It took the Chiefs 57 years to win their first NFL Championship.

Actually they won their first SB in 1970 over the Vikings. And it was 50 years later that they won their second SB over the 49ers in 2020. BUT yeah, waiting 50 years is still worse than waiting 27 between trophies.

Remember, I said NFL championship game. The Vikings won that. The Chiefs won an AFL Championship game. Then went on to win the AFL VS NFL game, later renamed the Super Bowl.

I doubt it could happen without a funeral.

They may begin to build the right kind of team when a credentialed and competent GM gets to make the final decisions on personnel, when the HC can hire his own staff, build the team chemistry, and install his own strategy.

It might happen when the HC has the full authority to run the team his way with full backing from the GM. It would have to include a specific plan or blueprint and then following the plan

Is all that going to teach Dak how to read defenses better, make better decisions, or improve his accuracy?
