I hope this kid develops quickly. He uses power a great deal and needs to show variations in his pass rush (haven't really seen the bend on his speed rush for example, or a countermove like a spin). It's still early, but hopefully work with DWare, Tank Lawrence and the Nittany Lion can help him add to his bag.

Definitely have high hopes for him and this defense as a whole.

He looked better tonight than he did the first game. And he did play against starters early. Definitely not going to have a Parsons type impact, but looks promising.

AT this point, however, Gregory brought more to the table last year. But if he plays all 17 games he may have a shot to get more than 6 sacks.
I agree, but if you compare where Gregory was as a rookie vs. SamIam, it feels like SamIam is more developed.

I noticed he was rushing a lot from a standup position. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more 34 looks from DQuinn this year. We have a generational outside line backer, we got a very good DE in Lawrence, our DTs are better than in years and we have some LBs that can chase (Cox/Barr/Armstrong and I would throw Williams into that group of LB/DE).

I guess the gold standard is to be able to switch from a 34 to a 43 seamlessly. What a freaking nightmare that would be for opposing quarterbacks to keep up with that in game!

good points.I know he can bend around the edge because he has shown it in TC.

You could absolutely see the athleticism with the combination of power and speed. What I didn't like is on a couple of occasions he appeared to turn himself around and face the secondary while trying to push his way back into the backfield. I'm sure that can be fixed with technique and coaching

Probably learning a spin move.

I admit he had a good game last night, but I am not ready to say he is better than Randy Gregory just yet. I think he has more potential because I do not think he will wind up being suspended for most of the 1t 4 years of his career.

What was really impressive on that sack was that he was being held the entire time.

Some of y'all need to learn what holding actually is. Williams was never prevented from going where he actually wanted to go. If you're referring to that pull, the OT actually pulled Williams back into his QB who had spun too tightly the wrong way, which again is where Williams wanted to go. Had Geno run more backwards and taken a wider angle outside (which he should have with Gallimore pursuing from his other side) and the OT did that same move to prevent Williams also breaking out wide, THAT would have been a hold.

The ref reached back to grab his flag on that play, but as soon as he did Sam had him in his grasp, so he let it go because it was a moot point

It's time to move past Randy, and no he's not better than RG...the rookie is developing, while RG is a highly paid speed rusher. Totally different type players.

It's a long season and hopefully Quinn can get this young to do some special things, but he's not there yet. I wonder where Sam will be around mid-to-late season once the game slows down a bit for him. I really like his power.
