If this was practice or preseason, I'd agree. But with they've been struggling to stay in games, so the defense needs to be as strong as possible right now.

Agree
We already struggle at run defense with average DTs. Micah is also rushing predominantly this year which is the right call. Given these factors you need run defense to be a priority at the other DE position and DLaw gives you that. Williams is a rookie. By the end of the year he will be getting more snaps if he performs

Sam Williams is stronger against the run on the right edge than Armstrong, Basham, Fowler Jr or Golston.

You can't base that opinion on what little you've seen of him. Well, you can, but you shouldn't. There was only one play in this film study in which he actually finished a while play. Other than the one tackle, they were all 'potential' plays.

What does Armstrong, Basham, Fowler Jr and Golston have? What rushing moves? They can't even seal the edge against the run.

I would rather play Sam Williams more these next 2 games against the weaker division teams, so he can get more practice and better.
Dude Dorance has 7 sacks in his last 11 games, he’s responded very well to more playing time. Fowler also has a sack and FF, he’s been good when he’s played.

You can’t just say someone isn’t good because they aren’t a superstar, you gotta update your opinions on Armstrong and Fowler as they put more tape out. Can’t just be stuck on opinions of players when game tape and stats show something else.

Gholston doesn’t even get that many snaps at pure DE and gets none on pass downs. He’s the least likely to interfere with Williams. Basham is hurt so by default he’s not in the picture.

And yes they didn’t do great against Tampa but they shut down Mixon and a good rushing offense last week. The starters have done nothing to be benched lol. Williams will get more and more snaps as the season wears on.

If you think you know more than Dan Quinn, the one higher up coach who’s proven himself, then you’re living in fantasy land. They know what they’re doing with the defense and they see Williams in practice every day. He’s gotten a penalty every game he’s played back through the preseason, and multiple of them being hands to the face. He’s still raw and will be brought along like any raw rookie is.

Don’t you worry man, just because we aren’t starting every rookie all 17 games doesn’t mean we’re doing it wrong.

Hard to after seeing those other 3 struggle to contain the right edge against the Bucs & Bengals runs.
Bucs yes, but Mixon was held to 89 yards rushing and 3 YPC. That’s very good. Can’t just lump both weeks together, the rush defense was night and day between those two games.
