where do we concentrate in the draft - or just take BPA every pick? I kinda feel like we need to look at WR, LB and CB early .........

Keeping MM or not? if so -- his thoughts on Dak and Zeke. If not, what is the new HC thoughts.

If I am GM, I am building the defense around Parsons, Diggs, Wilson, and probably OSA. Bohanna is growing on me. I like Kearse, Armstrong, Galli, and the rest of the DBs. So if I am looking D, I look for a special MLB or DL.

Offense right now is built around Dak, Zeke, Tyrone Smith, Zack Martin.--- I would evaluate the $$$ vs production of these 4 and decide if I want to keep going that direction.

CeeDee and Tyler Smith will need to be paid soon.

BPA please. I think FA and draft are an upgrade game.

QB high wouldn't be a bad plan regardless. RB in the 2nd or 3rd wouldn't be a bad plan either.

You've got your tackles, TE's, WR isn't set, but isn't hurting really either -- could upgrade here. G is a definite one though unless people think Martin can play forever.

So I would say DT, MLB, or G would be my first choice to upgrade, but if a WR, DE, or CB fell in my lap, I would definitely take him --- depending on whether you think Dak and Zeke should still be built around.

PS: I also believe in competition and not coddling players like QB's -- this is a sport and everyone competes, not just given a position due to $$$$.

I believe Brown and Lewis are done after this season. I could be wrong. If that's the case, then I don't feel comfortable with Joseph as our 2 CB. We need to look there.

I would also look to bolster the OL. WR is also a possibility.

In order of highest need:
1) OG - McGovern UFA, Peters retires
2) DT - Hill UFA
3) RB - Zeke cut, Pollard UFA
4) LB - LVE n Barr UFA, Clark?
5) OT - Tyron retires
6) CB - Brown UFA
7) TE - depth

IMHO…

Tier 1 Needs (Actual needs)
LG: I’d honestly bring old man Peters back if he would accept a mentor/backup G/LT role, but you need a big investment here

Tier 2 Needs (upgrades or starter caliber)
1-Tech: I like Bohanna but run D needs a big upgrade
WR: Looking for WR1 traits
TE: Schultz walks, and I like the bash brothers (Ferg and Hender), but a high pick prospect could thrive here
CB: only if you lose Brown. Bland is a future starter IMO, so you need another stud
LB: All depends on Damone Clark…
Swing Tackle project

Tier 3 Needs (roll the dice, contributors)
HB: Is Zeke here in ‘23? If not, get a cheap FA or draft middle rounds
DE: Cause pass rush
QB1: No disrespect, but lots of QB talent this draft that could likely be better than Dak or Rush

I think a better question is what do we concentrate on in the offseason? Yeah, I know we don't sign top FAs anymore, but they should shore up problem areas so that they can simply draft talent.

But I don't really see a position that's hugely more important than others, or a position where we couldn't use a top talent (I mean, we're not drafting a QB high, but other than that). We need a plan at RB, we could use more WR talent, you should always draft talent at OL and DL/EDGE regardless of what you have in house. You always need bodies at CB and LB. I think a primarily BPA draft makes tons of sense this year.

For WR the only WR in this draft I see with #1 traits is JSN, and he'll be long gone. Maybe Boutte, but there are alot of questions.

After a few good drafts in a row, we may have finally hit a weak WR pool

I keep hearing about need for a CB, but I don't understand.

Diggs, Bland, Lewis, Brown (if resigned), Joseph and is Nashon Wright actually going to develop?

You have Kearse, Hooker, Wilson, Mukamu at S.

I just don't see the need for a DB early. I mean if the top CB falls in your lap yes, but I don't see the need.

IMO the team can trade Tyron Smith for picks, even with his injury history, if Tyler ends up being the guy at LT.
Cap hit of 13mil for a 32 year old Left Tackle that has the talent is worth something. See Terron Armstead for a good comp for value around the league.
Saves 5.5mil if pre June 1st trade.

Zach Martin will be 33 next year, and he's still playing at a high level but for how much longer does he want to play? 19mil cap hit.

So, if the team does keep Tyler at LT, guard becomes an important position to restock. Left guard is barren, with just Farniok signed through next year and Martin only signed through 2024.

Linebacker we got some journeymen level guys in LVE and Barr. To be determined if Cox & Clark are the answer. Not so sure either is that type of linebacker that can shed a blocker. Especially with Clark having the same surgery LVE had.

Wide receiver is another spot that is something to watch. Will CDL show consistent traits to be paid as a #1 receiver? Gallup is a good #2 with injury concerns and Brown is playing well this year but is an UFA.

I think based off draft position, and if we are in the high teens to early 20's again, offensive line, interior wise might be BPA depending on how the players fall. I'll take a guy like Vorhees in round 1 and start to rebuild a line off physical play.

  • RB is the top need, just not in the 1st round
  • Farniok is developing nicely as a OG/OC but a 1st round OG is an attractive option
  • DT is a need but I’d rather grab a guy like Payne in FA
  • We need to draft WR early and often
  • We could use depth at TE and LB
  • I’m not against a 1st round CB though it isn’t the first option.
