I met her when I was 8 years old ...... She hugged my entire family and when told my grandmother's favorite song of hers, she freestyled it with her arm around my grandmother ...... Such a wonderful woman.

Funny story. She made up Butcher Hollow. Said she was born there, but later admitted she had made up the name using last names of people who lived near her.

Lots of little places around the country named something hollow. Wes Studi is from Nofire Hollow Oklahoma, which you will never ever find on a map

Born Loretta Webb, the second of eight children, she claimed her birthplace was Butcher Holler, near the coal mining company town of Van Lear in the mountains of east Kentucky. There really wasn't a Butcher Holler, however. She later told a reporter that she made up the name for the purposes of the song based on the names of the families that lived there.

Loretta might have been having fun with that reporter; she was known to do things like that.
