Per http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...oys-among-playoff-losers-with-biggest-windows

Not a whole lot that we don't already know, but I'm glad the NFL sees it as we do. The Cowboys are finally getting some credit. The only surprise I see in this is the optimism given to Romo's longevity; albeit a welcome one. We have every reason to be hopeful in the coming years. And hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things.

I think the expectations are going to be through the roof. Pre-season predictions of Super Bowl and all that.

If that is indeed the case, does that mean losing the NFC championship is an unsuccessful season?

The wildcard is Romo. He is our window.

No Romo, no nothing.

That is why it is frustrating to see this draft so poor on the QB front. We could not even start planning ahead even if we wanted to.

As long as Romo is around and healthy, it's Super Bowl or bust. And yes, we're definitely a favorite along a couple other teams.

Without Romo? Sub .500 team.

I don't think we should jump to conclusions about us as favorites. If we don't resign 2 out of 3 mcclain durant and carter and don't upgrade our corners and dline we shouldn't be that confident. Our defense needs upgrades immediately

Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl. The list goes on.

This team's chances to win a Super Bowl are not pinned to Romo. I want Romo to get one, but his window isn't the Cowboys window.

So, we are going to build a defense full of Hall of Famers like the Ravens and Buccaneers did back then to allow a Dilfer or Brad Johnson to win a championship?

Excellent, let me know when we are going to work on that.

Yeah, I tend to agree. How is the QB situation working out in Washington, Buffalo, KC, Tampa, NY Jets, and even teams trying to groom somebody like Miami, Minnesota and Cleveland? The game has evolved even more since Dilfer. Russell Wilson my not be a great passer but he is dynamic with a great defense and running game. Everybody else who's been to a Super Bowl recently has a Manning, Brady, Brees or Rodgers.

Make no mistake - Romo is our window and without him we have no shot with this group of players.

I don't think making it to the NFC Championship can ever be considered a losing season. Especially when we were by all accounts penciled in to be in the cellar this season. We did what most of us have been desperately hoping for. We fixed the line, and ran the ball. We've emerged from salary cap hell. We've shown managerial discipline.

Back in 88 we were 3 - 13, 89, 1 - 15, 90, 7 - 9, 91, 11 - 5 (Won Wildcard game. Lost in Divisional Playoffs), 92, 13 - 3 (Win the Superbowl)

Now I know you know this, because you're an intelligent man, but look at the similarity in the 90 - 91 seasons compared to our last two seasons.

We are right where we want to be. If we're smart, and we've learned from the lessons of the past, there's no reason why we can't be annual threat. Our legacy in this league demands that.

Oh, I'll bet there is at least one star QB in the making in this draft class - could be a perfect year to think out of the box and draft a small school guy in a later round. Any QBs from Eastern Illinois with a quick release in this year's class? LOL.

lets just hope that the "realist" don't go nuts "if" we lose in the play offs but
I am expecting it. However within the three year contract period of the
CO's I expect a run into the SB

No can't be considered a losing season. But can be considered a disappointing season. I am old enough to remember the palpable and repeated disappointments this team experienced during 1980–1982.

Who's to say there isn't another Romo or Brady in this draft?

Good point. But no-one in our currently constituted front office has ever found anyone like a Brady or a Romo. In fact, the guy named executive of the year thinks the acquisition of such a talent is the result of a "miracle."

We need to have a team that wouldn't be a dumpster fire if Romo got hurt. Remember when the Patriots went 11-5 with Matt Cassel at QB playing in all 16 games? Yeah. I believe the Seahawks would still be competing for a playoff spot without Russell Wilson. It'd be nice if we could at least compete for 8-8 if Romo got hurt on the first play of the season.

I don't know how close we are to having that kind of team, but that should be the goal.
