It's hard to watch a talented athlete destroy his future, so I need to "Rant" about it.

"Watching professional athletes ruin their NFL careers by repeatedly making bone-headed decisions is one of the most frustrating things a sports fan can witness. After all, the opportunity to play a sport for a living is a fantasy to most people. And seeing an athlete with Hall of Fame-caliber abilities waste their opportunity by making poor choices and/or breaking the law can be downright infuriating to those who could only dream of playing a sport for a living."

Here's the breakdown starting with Manziel at #1 http://www.cheatsheet.com/sports/football-players-ruined-nfl-careers.html/?ref=YF&yptr=yahoo

Some of these guys on the list just weren't that good enough.

Exactly. Some of those guys could have been perfect citizens off the field and still would have failed on the field.

Hollywood Henderson and Duane Thomas are better examples than most of those guys.

kaepernick deserves to be here as his SJW stance has made him a pariah by owners and a huge percentage of fans
...Kap for sure...I just saw this headline online...
Seahawks appear to shut door on Colin Kaepernick with latest QB signing...
...Fascinating...

I think they all had the talent for greatness and should have been great but their lack of effort is the way in which they ruined their lives. They thought they could play the Pro game on physical ability alone and when they realized they were wrong, they just gave up.

I think there are many more that make the same mistake but most pick up the pace after a while. They begin to do the other work required and this could very well be the main reason most players make their greatest improvement between their rookie and 2nd year. Others, the guys on this list, just never get it.

What about Lance Rentzel in the early 70's?

The dude is a WR for the Cowboys, a starter during their best years and the other WR is Bob Hayes, just the fastest man on the planet. The TE is recently acquired Mike Ditka. As a result, Lance averages 22 yards a reception in 1969.

As if Lance's football career situation wasn't perfect enough, he is married to Joey Heatherton, as in blonde bombshell, "sex symbol" Joey Heatherton.

But....Lance had the unusual hobby of exposing himself in front of 10 year old girls. Case closed, beautiful life totally evaporated.

A Neurosurgeon blamed head trauma from playing football for putting Rentzel into a "post traumatic
confusional state" and causing his actions.

It seems like that Doctor was ahead of the curve on that diagnosis back then.

Manziel is #1 because he was recent. Dude was a late first rounder with bust potential based solely on his in field play. Players like Leaf were infinity more talented and much bigger wastes

Two wr that could be considered for that list would Josh Gordon and Justin Blackmon. Both are pretty talented, but can't stay sober.

Lawrence Phillips was an incredible waste of talent. Could have been the best RB of his generation.

Todd Marinovich is another great talent who didnt make it. Feel sorry for him after seeing that documentary about his robojock upbringing a few years ago. The talent and mechanics in his high school footage jumps off the page - was a shadow of himself due to going off rails etc. by the time he was in the NFL. He absolutely hated football.
