The Cowboys’ two stars took over on Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys finally resembled the team that won 13 games a season ago.

After a struggling start to the season, the Cowboys re-discovered their mojo while out on the west coast this weekend. The San Francisco 49ers lost their last five games by a total of 15 points, and the home team was looking to get their first win of the season over America’s Team; however the duo of sophomore quarterback Dak Prescott and sophomore running back Ezekiel Elliott had other ideas. The dangerous combination wanted to make sure they got their team back on track before a critical stretch of games upcoming on the schedule.

Ezekiel Elliott was simply unstoppable. There is no other way to put it. Zeke had a feast on Sunday en route to his best game of the 2017 season by far. The second-year superstar found open running lanes, made defenders miss, and reached the end zone all afternoon long. The Niners’ hungry defense had no answer for arguably the best tailback in football.

Elliott, for whatever reason, has not always looked like his old self so far this season. Maybe it’s because of the offensive line’s struggles; maybe it’s because of everything surrounding him off of the football field. Whether the matter was, Zeke appears to have found his groove in a big way. The 2016 rushing champion rushed for more than 80 yards against the Green Bay Packers in the fourth quarter alone in week five, signaling that maybe he is finally hitting his stride.

He picked up where he left off after the bye. From the opening drive on, it was all Ezekiel Elliott. The 49ers had no answer. If you include the possession immediately following Trent Taylor’s fumbled punt, Elliott carried the rock four times for 25 yards and a touchdown right out of the gate. From that moment, you could just tell that it was going to be Zeke’s day for the first time all season.

Just check out two of his three touchdowns:

And this:

These last few carries give Zeke a new all-purpose personal best. It was 209; he's now sitting at 216.

Zeke ended the game with 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, one reception for a 72-yard touchdown on a screen, and he completely dominated the game from start to finish. Zeke appears to be hitting his stride in a big way on the football field.

Elliott was not the only player to have himself a big day; Dak Prescott played pretty well himself. While he wasn’t his accurate self for the majority of the first half, Dak finished the game strong en route to a much needed blowout road victory. The 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year used both his arm and his legs to hurt the Niners on Sunday, as Prescott accounted for four touchdowns for the second consecutive game.

In addition to the screen play in which Zeke took it all the way, Dak also threw for two more touchdowns on the day. First he hit Jason Witten on a pass that the future Hall of Famer brought in with one hand!

Later in the game, Dak hit Dez Bryant in the back of the end zone off a play action fake for the final points in the Cowboys’ blow out victory.

He became the third quarterback in Dallas Cowboys history to throw three touchdowns in three consecutive games. The second-year star joins pretty impressive company.

Dak Prescott is only the third Cowboys QB to three TDs in three consecutive games (Meredith, Romo) #DallasCowboys

And now, Dak is the third QB in Cowboys franchise history with three straight 3-TD pass games.
Staubach and Aikman never did that. @NBCDFW

He then added another score on the ground:

Dak has accounted for eight touchdowns in the last two games (six passing, two rushing). Wow.

Dak Prescott has 7 career games with 3+ TD passes and 1 or fewer INTs. Only Dan Marino has more such games in 1st 2 seasons (9).
