yeah but I think this year, the Mavs got the memo and are now doing what they should have done years ago. Oh and Carlisle is better at coaching basketball than Garrett is at coaching football.

I don't think any great players want to play for the Mavericks, they need to find a way to completely change their image or get lucky and draft a once in a quarter century player like LaBron and hope he stays around for the long term
I think the Cowboys are becoming the same and the only reason players want to come to Dallas is they hope that jeri will give them a fat contract, I'd be surprised if any come to the cowboys thinking they'll win championships

The Mavs problem is that they had no young players but to build around. Players will go anywhere when they see youth surrounding the team. Nobody wanted to play with an aging Dirk even after they won the championship in 2011. They are now getting younger and will get even more young this June.

and for a long time the Mavs were the equivalent of the Cleveland browns, pretty much most of the 80's and 90's

There are only 5 players on the court at one time in basketball, one great player like Nowitski is 20% of the entire team on the court, not a valid comparison. As they say, "even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while". Cuban got Nowitski and it worked out great, trying to build a NFL team is a bit different.
Cuban could easily have just gotten lucky...

Y’all beat me to it. RC is a proven championship player and coach. He’s often regarded (to my surprise) as a top 5 coach whereas JG is middle of the pack.
I understand the analogy/concern but I don’t think it applies here.

Completely different problem in the NBA. The Mavs are intentionally tanking in hopes of landing a superstar in the draft. In the NBA, one guy can make the difference between a title run and missing the playoffs. The only way a team like the Mavs are ever going to land a difference making player like that is the draft. No owner wants to win more than Mark Cuban and its certainly not a money issue.

If you mean being like the Mavericks when they won a Championship in 2011, I’m ok with that. If you mean the way Mark Cuban has allowed his organization to become a cautionary tale sexual harrassment training video, then no, I would rather not.
