Not in the next 10 years.

Many people consider gambling to be sinful activity.

They do allow horse racing in Texas but that is very restricted. Any gambling in the near term would be restricted to the same location as the horse racing track, IMO.

I think things are changing....really changing. Fewer people are following A team. IMO fewer folks are interested in going to games and rooting hard for their favorite team. More and more fans are playing satellite "games" that feed off established sports teams. Such things as "fantasy" leagues and sports betting are like parasites thriving at the expense of their hosts. Their hosts are the long established sports business that has been part of our lives for generations. Attendance at the games and TV ratings are beginning to reflect all of this IMO.

Probably not with the conservative leadership we currently have. Most of all Texas simply isn’t in dire need of the tax revenue.

Good news is Oklahoma and Louisiana probably will at least at their larger Vegas style Casinos .

For the serious gambler this really has no impact. They’ll still gamble online or call their illegal bookie.

I’m wondering since sports booking is legal now if the Feds will not be looking to come down as hard on illegal bookmaking or will they be looking to come down harder where those states are still illegal ?

Here in Texas bookmakers I know rarely were harassed or pursued by local authorities but more by the Feds;FBI and IRS for tax evasion.

Yes they will, there are many that say publicly that they are against it, but do want it brought in. The Texas based Laundry's already has significant gambling businesses in other states and you can bet(lol) that they will use their influence and money to bring it to Texas. It's just a matter of time and greasing the right pockets.

Many thought the NCAA would stonewall this but it is looking more like they will go along. But, I still do not see this in Texas. Unless they get sued like they did about shipping wine into the state and capitulated on that. Walmart is lining up to sue them about keeping hard liquor out of the grocery stores so maybe the powers that try to control others' lives are weakening...….but, those lobbyists still exist. And this always has been a corrupt government state. Hell, why else go into politics?

Texas will first have to allow casinos as those are the establishments that will run the sports books in these other states. They seem quite content to let the tax dollars cross the state line and I don't see that changing.

Well if Texas allows casinos - there goes the Indians onto the warpath.

It will kill their cross border business.

They know and that's why they bought the race track in Grand Prairie because the skinny is if they do weaken, it will begin with video gaming allowed at the race track. Nothing to say they couldn't be the licensee in N TX.

The Chickasaw's have put a ton of money into Winstar with the hotels and expansion and if Texas did legalize it and they were left out, that would be a ghost town compared to what it is now. And it's questionable whether they could bring in the big acts without the N TX traffic.

I don't think they believe it will happen anytime soon as the media has been doing pieces on lost tax revenue since the casinos opened. They seem to conveniently ignore it in Austin because they don't want to anger some people in Texas and it's just an assumption on my part but I think church people are more likely to vote than gamblers. And I have never seen any research on what Texans want and if they really care. Some of the states that have legalized it were losing pop and needing tax revenue, Texas is just the opposite so I don't think it even gets brought up for discussion.

Between the two, I'd rather see them legalize pot more than gambling because then I could get lost on the way to the casinos.

In New York State they legalized casino gambling. It isn't doing all that well either. And, just the other day they legalized betting on sporting events. I can't wait to see what that does. I don't think it's a good thing.
