Williams has two seasons remaining on a five-year, $66 million deal that expires after the 2020 season. The contract extension made him the highest-paid tackle in NFL history when he signed in 2015. His base salary, according to salary website Over The Cap, is $11 million in 2019 and $12.5 million in 2020. The total value of his deal ranks fourth in the league among left tackles, but his annual average salary of $13.2 million currently ranks sixth.

According to Jason la Canfora tweet a few minutes ago Williams just doesn't want to play for the Skins and is very mad at the way they handled some medical issues last year.

I was thinking he wanted out. Haven't heard of anyone announcing their holdout on the first day of camp to get paid. Its usually during free agency when the teams has $ to spend.

Would he vow to play right tackle for the Cowboys for a cap friendly contract?
Just saying what you all are thinking.

Contracts mean nothing to some of those guys. It does reveal the kind of character they have....or don't have.

Boy, the team doesn't have to honor the contract. They owe him nothing if they release him. But for some reason the player needs to honor a deal. Both sides signed it but one side gets to get out for nothing while the other is somehow dishonorable for not wanting to play under those terms.

Wait a minute. The player signed a deal allowing these terms. They owe him nothing if they release him because that is what was signed and known to everyone at that time. I'm not sure what you mean by not wanting to play under those terms? What terms? The terms he signed?

And those terms absolutely allow him to holdout or demand a trade. The team can fine him a certain amount but he has massive leverage as he's one of the best tackles in the league and the team's options are to either not have him or to work something out.

The team knew full well signing him that those are the terms you deal with in non-guaranteed salary years.

All y'all crying "but he signed a contract" are arguing for indentured servitude and totally ignoring the player's right to holdout.

Come to Dallas, even if you never play again they'll cover your medical like no other.

And you can play right tackle, and if Smith gets hurt you move over.

Is it a proven fact that skipping mandatory team activities while under contract often results in bigger contracts?

get what you're worth big man
worth???? Hes worth what he is under contract for. If im an owner, Id let this guy sit and rot. I dont care if he sits the entire season. He doesnt get paid, he doesnt lose a year on the contract... noting. He has zero power if the team hold strong.

You cant work in a cap world when this stuff happens. You sign a player for 5 years and you have that pay sloted in, then the player wants to just throw it out and redo it. Screw that. Sit and rot big boy, sit and rot.

You dont deal in contracts often, do you? I can promise you there is NOTHING in his contract that addresses him sitting out/holding out/demanding a trade. "INdentured servitude?" bahahahahha, really? INdentured servants had zero leverage and terms of any "Agreement," were 100% one sided.
Thats not the case here. Players do not have to sign any deal. They can go play where they want. He doesnt have all the leverage. This isnt the NBA where 1 player can destroy a teams chances at success. You think one olineman will be the deciding factor in how the siins do this year? He has zero leverage and if the skins hold tight, watch big boy come crying back to the team when his checks stop coming in and he is getting seriously fined daily.
