Dallas Cowboys bold prediction: A possible defensive MVP
https://thelandryhat.com/2019/06/18/dallas-cowboys-prediction-defensive-mvp/

...The Dallas Cowboys will have a defensive player compete for the league MVP award. Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith and DeMarcus Lawrence are all legitimate candidates. The biggest problem they will all have may be competing against each other. Either way, the Dallas Cowboys win from such competition.,,

Now with a threat on the other side, teams will be forced to pick their poison. If given enough one-on-one opportunities, Lawrence’s numbers will go through the roof. He also happens to be an excellent run defender so his all around game could make him a MVP candidate...

For my money, Jaylon Smith is the one with the best shot. He was a sure fire top five talent in 2016, prior to the injury. The talent is obviously there and the production isn’t far behind. Prepare to see one of these names in the top three of the MVP balloting.

It's a good problem to have. No longer is our defense Sean Lee and a bunch of JAGs.

I could see either LVE or Smith making a serious run at it, from this defense.

If the front four plays up to their potential/talent, then I can see those two making tons of plays on ball carriers or an off thrown pass.

I'm looking for a much stronger defensive tackle rotation.
I truly believe if you can't push the center back into the quarterback's face so he can't step oh, I don't care how good your Edge rushers are they just can't get there. I've been begging for a defensive tackle for five seasons yes Crawford was a good run-stopper but he couldn't get that bulrush. And I love that we have rotation on the defensive line can't wait for the season

IMHO there is a reasons Lee is still on this team, beware of the sophomore slump for LVE.

In order for either Smith or Vander Esch to get consideration, three things must happen. The overall D must improve, unknown, light should be shining on them to start the season as it has on the past MVP's, known, and the DL must stand it's ground and occupy 300lb guys to allow the LBs to make the plays.

The other thing they will have to do is just beyond tackling, they must create turnovers and affect the game as Donald caused 5 fumbles last season. They also need the cooperation of Donald not to be the front runner.

Lawrence would have to put up big numbers and be more of a factor in crunch time. How can a player be MVP when he doesn't show up in crunch time? But what could help him out is if Gregory is cleared to play from the start of the season. Gregory's presence in the pass rush helps Lawrence more than any other player.

The intangibles Lee and Witten bring are the reason they are on the team and I think each has a future with the team beyond their playing days.

LVE made a splash but he still has a lot to learn and now he's on the opposing OC's radar. If either of the two LB's are to really make a run at the MVP, they both need a healthy Lee for the majority of the season to allow them to fully play their positions like they do. As we've seen the absence of a starter isn't just the effect of their absence but the effort to cover for the absence of the starter.

The East Coast bias will have to be put out of commission for any Dallas player to be considered a MVP on either side of the ball.

I'd peg Lawrence with having the best chance to be defensive MVP. He's had the best production for the longest period of time. And if he's truly recovered from the labrum injury, he should be back to his dominant self. It's no coincidence that his numbers fell off during and after the Houston game when he reinjured it.

With Quinn on the other side, and hopefully improved interior pressure, I expect his sack numbers to go back up.

Teach 'em how not to backup or backdown, ever...

Xavier Woods or Chidobe Awuzie

We've put three guys in the defensive MVP conversation. Well three point five if you add Byron Jones. Can you imagine how good this defense would be if someone else stepped up and added themselves to that conversation.

On a side note, a guy I'm interested to see this year is Maliek Collins. He really flashed as a rookie but foot issues have stunted his development. But I've heard good things and he's headed into a contract year so I'm eager to see if he can finally be that force in the middle I thought he could be after year one.
