I think it was in 1984, actually.

Schramm oversaw this change. He did it when they went to a more reflective pant color with the white jerseys. It was done to make the pants look closer to the silver of the helmets on NTSC televisions. He ran tests during the day and night under cameras at Texas Stadium.

Once TV went HD, the green pants became very obvious to everyone.

Looks like there's a change in 1983. Couldn't tell if that was the green. In 1993, it looks like they get more green or at least brighter.

The authors were right. Black trim on the sleeves, silver helmet doesn't match the pants, blue star doesn't match the numbers...and they look great.

The white jersey's in an open air grass field are unmatched. The helmet almost changes from a grey silver to a stainless steel look. The White uniform rocks but looks so much looks better on the road in the sun.

The green pants look idiotic and don’t match a damn thing. It’s foolish to keep using them. Their Navy away uniforms are beautiful and match perfectly. They certainly need a refresh of the white uniforms. Maybe we will get that when Jerry goes away.
