I've been saying it for weeks, vision and explosiveness. He is capable of getting us to the dance.

But no, we'll throw millions at a guy who excels in off field situations. Continue to build the lines Jerry, you won't need a elite RB.

Thanks, I see he is with the Rams.... Henderson I mean.

He was picked in the 3rd round... interesting how closely they were picked.

Also... yeah i saw his weight. I was thinking the guy might get folded like a lawn chair... But, you can see he has some skills. Makes me wonder how smart their coach was there lol.
(in bold ^^^) Memphis University must be thinking the same thing right now about their head coach. Ouch. lol

The starter Darrell Henderson was a terrific player. I thought he was as good as in RB in this draft. I think he went in the 3rd because he is not big (5-8, 208) which seems silly because he has the Emmitt type build.

Pollard played way more snaps than a typical "backup" RB. He played all over from Wildcat QB, RB, 2nd RB on the field, WR, lead blocker and dynamic kick returner.

Memphis also had a power RB that is expected to be drafted next year in the 2nd to 4th range.

Memphis played UCF (Trysten Hill's team) twice in 2018.

I really liked the Memphis offensive scheme. They reminded me of some things the Rams did against the Cowboys. They made the offense "friendly" for their QB.

On the downside they didn't do much when Trysten Hill was on the field for UCF in the AAC championship game. They had 1 field goal and a TD after UCF's offense fumbled putting Memphis down near the redzone to start that series. They did score 31 on drives when Hill was on the bench.

Good post.

The starting RB who Tony Pollard backed up at Memphis was Darrell Henderson.

I believe the Cowboys picked wisely since Tony Pollard has the smarts and skills to run very well with the ball and can take it to the house on any play. Plus, Pollard has low miles on his tires which bodes well for duration now with the Cowboys. If Tony Pollard can add an extra 10 pounds of muscle to his 6 foot 210 pound frame, I think he will be capable of easily handling 20+ carries every single game.

Getting ya some damn good BQ ribs also helps ........:muttley:

Julius Jones would have been a great back if he had vision, balance & enough power to absorb at least a little contact without going down.

Lots of backs have the physical measurables that gets people drooling. Only the guys who have the things you can't teach become better than average to great backs.

Not trying to jinx or anoint Pollard but its pretty clear he has some of the traits that give him a chance.

Pollard will get exposed by the Giants hopefully it is for the best. I have no illusion of him being a viable replacement for Zeke more like a compliment or change of pace. If we have Amari, Gallup, Witten, and Dak playing full stride I think the loss of Zeke in the backfield will be minimal and will not be a core story for the game which I think is the most we can hope for in Sept.

For what I thought was going to be a finesse back, this guy seems to run through a lot of tackles.
Same here. Pollard has a little pop to the end of his runs, and he's showing he can run between the Tackles as well as around the edge. He also is quick enough to move enough not to get hit squared on most runs. He kind of reminds me of Tony Dorsett.

I haven't given it much thought who he reminds me of. I am pleasantly surprised that he looks like a real running back, not only a change-of-pace back.

Great breakdown by ex-Cowboy Brian Baldinger.

Enjoy...

Go Tony Pollard! ✭ Go Cowboys!!!

Thanks for sharing. I love Baldy's takes. His delivery is old school football. Loves the physical play. Passionate. I think he is one of the best analysts out there. His video on LVE and Smth last year was awesome.

Pollard will be stopped with base defenses. He may make a few plays here and now. But not consistently to scare opposing defenses. Most attention will go to Cooper and whoever else is a threat on Cowboys offense (Gallup).

great commentary by baldy.

Except for the questionable hands comment. Receiving was supposed to be his primary strength. His ability to run between the tackles has been the big surprise.

The patience he shows for a young runningback is remarkable.

I remember it took Zeke a few weeks to actually be patient on his runs and this guy just does it naturally.
His vision, patience and the fact that he has just enough power to his game make me optimistic he can be a productive starting RB if it comes to it.
Pretty shifty, too.

Julius Jones ...... hmmm, Julius Jones.
Riiiiiiight, I remember him. The guy Parcells and our dip**** RB coach said was just as good as Steven Jackson.

Zeke looked pretty remarkable against the Seahawks starting defense his rookie year in the preseason.

Zeke in the first game against the Giants was a bull in a china closet.

He didn’t start settling in until the Sunday night game against Chicago.
