Is Donovan Wilson Ready To Takeover At Strong Safety || Preseason Film Session

All I have to say is............................................THANK YOU!!!!! :flagwave::flagwave::flagwave:

Heaths days are numbered and not its just A MATTER OF TIME!!

In my opinion it will take an injury to either Woods or Heath to get him in there. But once he's in there, he wont come out.

Totally amazing that they found this guy in the 6th round. Dont even say that coaching doesnt matter. Richards is doing for the Cowboys EXACTLY what he did in Seattle. Finding gems in the lower rounds that are studs. HIS type of guys. Not failing on HIS type of guys like Merinelli keeps going.

Always nice to have depth. Heath usually suffers some type of injury. I have no issues with Heath, he's always around the ball and is one of the few people that we have in the secondary that actually likes contact. Every now and then he takes a bad angle or has a bad read but he's been pretty consistent in my opinion.

It's amazing that it's clear he's better than heath but they won't start him anyway because of team politics.
He’ll probably be on a similar path to the one Woods took:

* Play some in sub packages in the first half of his rookie season.
* Play a lot more in the second half of his rookie season.
* Start his second season.

I love Wilson’s smarts, toughness, and hitting ability. He’s going to pop some runners good this year because he’s an explosive hitter.

Both he and Woods are really smart, instinctive guys, which are probably my favorite traits for a safety to have. Both will hammer the ball carrier too.

I love that pair at the safety spots.

Cause he sucks!
and because Wilson will be able to play SS just fine.

A lot of SS’s can’t play FS... but FS’s can play SS as long as they’re physical enough and take good angles to the ball.

Wilson will be a good modern SS. Now days they’re basically two FS’s anyway, because you got to be able to cover.

The odd thing with Donovan Wilson is that they played him as FS.

They will flip the FS/SS high/low occasionally but the Safety that plays the most snaps on a drive as the single-high Safety is the FS.

Woods is the starter at FS and Heath at SS. I expected to see Wilson at SS if he has a chance to replace Heath anytime soon.

Personal theory:

If I recall correctly, Wilson was an SS type in college. I think they played him at FS in PS to test his coverage skills. Either way, he passed the test.

Heath might start but I expect Wilson to be leading in snap count by week 4.

That crossed my mind also.

I went to to review some of his college games. In the ones I watched he played FS.

Maybe they put him where he would be most comfortable FS and then they'll work him him as SS.

It's strictly up to the defensive staff to decide when Donovan Wilson is ready or not. It's also impossible to read their minds from where we sit. In any case, it does appear Wilson has an advantage over Wilson in terms of his experience. Wilson will replace Heath as soon as his performance allows.

How long that might take is anyone's guess. If coaches are duly impressed with Donovan's participation in the early stages of the regular season, it depends upon how much action he'll get. The more action that he sees signals one and all that it probably won't much longer.

At some point Wilson will take the starters job. As impressive as he has been so far, just imagine what he will be like NEXT year.
