dangerous thinking IMO and one of the reasons this Front Office fails.

The safety play right now is bad to subpar. Wilson appears to be healthy now but appears to be the 4th safety behind Heath, Woods, and Darian Thompson. He'd likely be 5th or on the Practice Squad if Frazier didn't get hurt.

When Heath has been hurt they have played Darian even though he's more of a Free and Donovan is the supposed back-up at Strong.

I really like Wilson and think he'll contribute before it's all over, but if he can't get on the field over these guys, he must not be picking up his assignments.

Well, I'm thinking more about 2020 in terms of Simmons and or Wilson starting.

You think Simmons via trade can replace Woods or Heath at mid season? It's possible I suppose, but i seriously doubt Marinelli or KR would do it. Patrick Peterson I can see him starting off the bat, but not Simmons IMO.

Yep, being content is the way to go.

Patriots (Mohamed Sanu), 49ers (Emmanuel Sanders), and Rams (Jalen Ramsey) all agree.

Rams were desperate and way overpaid. Could hurt them for the next two years.
Pats overpaid for Sanu since Gordon got hurt but the Pats can afford that luxury.
Cowboys aren't one player away from anything and can't afford to overpay in my opinion.

Football trades are a little harder because off all the scheme-specific stuff but free safety is one of the easier transitions. It most likely would be about converting phrases or terminology. He'd be fine.

I'm not suggesting we make all these acquisitions; only suggesting these are the calls/inquiries I would make tomorrow as the GM of the Cowboys to try to improve the roster.

Call #1
New York Jets - Jamal Adams. The Jets seem to be subtly following the Dolphins tanking philosophy (shopping Leonard Williams and Robby Anderson). There are very few times in the NFL when a young, premier player is available and is a position of need for you. Jamal Adams is the safety this fan base has been clamoring for since Darren Woodson. He's 24, would have a $3.5M cap hit next season and has a 5th year option for 2021. My guess is his value is somewhere between Minkah Fitzpatrick (plus a 4th and a 7th for a 1st, 5th, and 6th) and Jalen Ramsey (two 1st round picks and a 4th). Nice things are expensive and if the Jets aren't being unreasonable, Adams would be an ideal solution to this defense's Achilles heel.

Call #2
Hold the line Joe Douglas - Leonard Williams. The Cowboys allegedly already inquired about Williams and likely felt the price was too high. I'd call again and monitor the situation all the way to the Tuesday deadline. The Jets are looking beyond this year and getting a pick or two now beats the 2021 compensatory pick they will get for Leonard Williams.

Call #3
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - O.J. Howard. This is a move for now and later. He would be a great complimentary piece to the weapons Dak has now. We like 12 personnel and Howard is a match-up issue and would be valuable on seam routes. He'd also allow the team to have a ready-to-go #1 TE if Witten decides to hang them up after this year.

Call #4
Denver Broncos - Justin Simmons. The Broncos are 2-6 and are most likely looking towards next season. Simmons is a talented safety. He's been targeted 21 times and only given up 10 completions (47.6% rate), and has 2 picks and 38 tackles before today's game. We supposedly loved him in the 2016 draft and ended up taking Charles Tapper 4 picks after the Broncos took Simmons. He is a pending free agent so that's one more contract to be worked out, but like Adams, he would address a weakness for the team.

Call #5
Arizona Cardinals - Patrick Peterson. Okay, calm down and read the whole thing before replying. Peterson is still an elite cornerback. When you have a shutdown corner, it gives you so much flexibility defending the rest of the offensive weapons. He's under contract for next season ($12.3M) so he's not just a one-year rental. He will be an expensive acquisition though. The Cardinals aren't going anywhere but they love Pat Pete and will not move on from him easily. My biggest motivation for this phone call lies elsewhere. I would love to add a player of his caliber but more than anything, my intent is to drive up the price for the Eagles. I don't want to see him in Philadelphia, but if they have their heart set on him, I want them to give up as much as possible.

Again, I'm not saying make ALL these trades. I'm saying kick the tires and see what it would take. None of these are dire so there is zero need to overpay.

Bennett was a minimal risk move. You're taking a chance on a proven veteran who the Patriots felt was not needed in their quest to make yet another Super Bowl run. He was mainly acquired to address the need created by Tyrone Crawford's injury, so in essence was maintaining the talent level. We need to make a move to improve the talent or I fear we will come up short of our ultimate goal.

Love the never say die spirit. Chance of any of these things happening is .00000001%.

Nice post but I think #1 is a pipe dream. #3 won’t happen because Witt coming back buys two more drafts to find his replacement as I think he plays at min this year and next. #5 would be too expensive and not a real necessity. I will say I love #2 and #4 but don’t see it happening since this front office always seems to think what they have is better than what’s out there.

Witten will be playing every play at 60 years old in a wheel chair while holding his spleen in his hands because “he is a great locker room guy” and people around here will still be marveling at how he is getting “open” on 1/2 yard routes. Some will say if we would just get it to Witten we would win more games.

Cooper, Quinn, and Bennett. Seems like this line is past its expiration date.

I’ll give you Cooper but it was the result of the front offices stubbornness that WR by committee was the way to go which obviously blew up in their face. Quinn I believe is because of Randy Gregory which again is the FO stubbornness and as for Bennett the Pats essentially gave him away.

Jamal Adams tweet from 4 hours ago....

Been wanting him on the Cowboys since I watched him at Hebron High School in North Dallas.

The thing is, he's a huge fan favorite. The only way I could see the Jets letting him go is if he forced it b/c the fans would riot if they did it voluntarily. Seems like some of the scuttlebutt about him wanting out has died down the last few weeks.

I'd be willing to give up a 1st and 3rd. I've lost faith in the defensive drafting from this team. So better to take the known commodity.
