Many Examples of Dumb Coaching vs Minnesota!

Garrett and the coaching staff out did themselves last night vs Minnesota. Epic bad coaching throughout the game.
1.On the first drive we try a 57 yard FG instead of pinning Minnesota inside the 15 yard line with a punt. Try 57 yarder at the end of the half or end of game, but not on the first drive.

2. At the end of the 1st half going into a prevent defense and handing Minnesota 3 points. This was the difference in the game too. We could have kicked a FG at the end instead of going for it on 4th down.

3. Making no adjustments in our use of Zek. No screens, no draws, no short circle routes, etc., that is while Minnesota made adjustments to help Cook. Bringing in the fullback!

4. I didn’t have a problem running Zek on 2nd and 3rd and 2, but the pitch call was so stupid. Minnesota has been penetrating all game.

5. On the 4th down play why is Zek in the slot? Pollard is quicker and faster he should have been in the slot!!!

6. Dumbest play, possibly of the year! Garrett telling Austin to fair catch the ball. Garrett should have been telling Austin, “go out there and make something happen”. Instead he fair catches and we waste 2 plays throwing 5 yard outs to get into position for a Hail Mary. Anyone remember when Jackson, from Philly was a rookie, he returned a punt vs the Giants on the last play of the game. Garrett took the ball right out of Austin’s hands by what he said to him right before the punt. Austin might have took that punt to the house. There was soooo much room for him to run.

Coaching Matters a lot! We don’t have it with Garrett!!

Yes to all of these. It was another embarrassing performance by the entire coaching staff. Of course, if our defense played even just a little bit better, we win. Hell, if they could've stopped the 2-point conversion we probably win the game. We would've only been down by two at the end, a long Maher kick would've won the game.

1. I make no secret that I don't care for Maher, but I didn't see the huge deal in that one. Dude has been money this year from long range and the ball was placed on the left hash. Had Garrett gone for the punt he would of gotten flack for not going for the points.

2. IT's what they do.

3. Nope. simply running it in the gut.

4. Pollard's only run? Yea that got blown up fast.

5. They don't substitute till Zeke asks to be taken out it seems.

6. Yea

Make the FG and you wouldn't be calling it stupid.

Minnesota changed running packages several times from FB to 2 TE sets etc. Cook is just better.

You don’t try fifty seven yarders unless it’s at the end of a half or your team is down three late in the game.

I would have preferred him go for it if he wasn’t punting.
Punt the ball and make them drive 85-90 yards for a TD. That missed FG completely changed our Field position advantage in what everyone knew would be a close game.

Still goes back to coaching though. What adjustments did Marrinelli or Richard make once they saw they were being gutted by their outside runs????? Oh, nothing. Just go do what we do. That mentality is a cancer to this team. Dallas needed to run blitz to stop some of those drive continuing runs. Instead, they just sit there and get gutted for all to see doing nothing about it.

The opening drive 55+ yard FG is just not smart. Best-case, you make the kick and you have a whopping 3-0 lead early in the game. Worst-case, you miss and give the opponent a short field to start their opening drive. They capitalize and gain a 7-0 lead and momentum that carried them, helping to build a 14-0 lead.

The stat has been posted about how Dak is 1-10 when facing a 10+ pt deficit. Shouldn't your HC be aware of those numbers and do his best to ensure that they don't risk putting the players in a hole like that?

No. it would still be stupid but not costly. Driving drunk is stupid even if you do it and no one gets hurt or a ticket. It doesn't make it right.

Kicking the ball there is just stupid because the risk is far too high in that scenario. If this was your last drive of the half, sure go for it. Never on a first drive. EVER.

I appreciate this post. There's a lot of complaining about Garrett on this site and much of it strikes me as knee-jerk and not well substantiated. But this is a convincing list.

Did Garrett get asked about the 55 yard FG attempt? I’m sure he made some lame rationalization. He NEVER admits his mistakes, that’s why he repeats them.
