Uh..........as a guard this is about 90% of your job, that's like saying a wr can't catch but he'll block the heck out of you.

Depends on the offense you run and which guard. Left and Right are not the same and Offensive Blocking schemes aren't either. So the whole 90% thing is completely inaccurate, depending on what you are looking for in a LG.

Na it's not just him...the entire line looks lost in run blocking compared to the past few years. Frederick has been struggling as well, he's not the same player he was before his sickness.
It seems to me that Columbo has changed their blocking scheme. Now, they allow the DL to attack them and they are catching them while run blocking. Bizarre. I have not seen them fire out at the DL while run blocking yet. What the heck Columbo? You idiot.

It's crazy how bad Left Tackle has been this year in the NFL

Tyron is just playing regular good (not elite or amazing) and he's literally playing better than 7 out of the 8 pro bowl LT's from last year (Leno, Lewan, Whitworth, and Backhariti all have 2x the penalties as him, Vilanueva is having the worst season of his career, Fisher and Trent Williams aren't playing). Gonna be funny when Tyron makes pro bowl, NFL top 100, and possible 2nd team all-pro, people are gonna scream "buh buh he just made it on reputation screw his peers"

It kinda makes sense because Defensive End this year has been stacked across the NFL in terms of ratings and stats (lots of elite DE play this year)

Regarding Colombo, the line saw improvement once they fired Alexander and went with Colombo leading the coaching duties. They didn't bring back Houck for 2019.

They supposedly went back to more of a power blocking scheme and Zeke had 4 100 yard games out of the first 6 games after Colombo was named OL Coach.

The Cowboys also went to a power blocking scheme once McFadden became the starting RB and he had success with that swap.

Also, Collins saw a large improvement under Colombo this season.

The line didn't care for Alexander's technique regarding hand placement and embraced Colombo's style. The line is banged up, so I'm not for sure if it's the scheme or just guys playing through pain.

He was really good in pass protection. PFF gave him a 90.1 in pass protection..........a score Connor Williams can only dream about. He scored 60.1 in run blocking which is better than Connor usually scores.
I saw Tyron struggling a bit, how did PFF grade him?

Uh, watch tape and show me where Dallas OL is a power blocking scheme? On running plays they stand there and catch the DL rather than firing off the line and engaging their man. What am I missing????

That didn't happen.

Connor Williams has 5 total penalties for the season. He had 2 penalties in the Skins game and 1 or zero in all other games.
You can still hear his name when he gets beat, not only when he commits a penalty.

I, like most teams, are looking for someone who won't get pushed into the backfield on run plays. I'm looking for someone that won't be so weak that on crucial 3rd and 1s teams know that the Cowboys are running to the right side do to the weakness at left guard. He needs a double team to be successful and he was handed the job by draft status only, Su'a and Looney would be better at that position imo.

You may very well be looking for that but the Cowboys clearly aren't. They value mobility over power at the position clearly. For the record, I don't believe that Williams has been a liability in the run game for this team this year. I think that's a lot of BS myself.

I can't believe his reply has over 10 likes. Literally 10+ people read my post as "Williams has over 25 penalties" (lmao)

All I mentioned was that the Cowboys employed the PBS at times to success with their run game.

This line has/had the ability to run either system. Alexander was a power blocking scheme coach that also wanted the linemen to adjust their handwork. They didn't buy into the second part of his coaching.

Colombo came from the Houck era which also used the PBS scheme.
