It's idiotic in the sense that there's no way to look at this team relative to the rest of the league and think that more than a handful of teams have more pure talent. I don't know what you can be possibly watching to think that.

How can it possibly be overhyped? This is a fan base that pretty consistently thinks Dak isn't worth $30m, Zeke isn't a top-5 RB, there are 20 edge players better than DLaw, and that Heath sucks.

Dak is worth 30 mil
zeke is a top 5 rb
there arent 20 edge rushers better than Dlaw but hes 2nd best on our team in getting to the QB
and Heath is serviceable

Our line is not what it once was. Watch them run block
Zeke is a top 5 RB but because of point 1 is not what he once was and he came in out of shape
Look how much are LB were hyped. I think I can find 3 of the scrap heap that tackle better and dont over run plays our interior line is attrocious
Do I need to even mention the secondary

Its a top 10 roster that is poorly coached at just about every position. Too much fluff from the media coming into the season and the cowboys bought into it. I think they are better than their record but every Sunday they are embarrassed especially on the defensive side of the ball

The roster is talented but not everyone is playing up to their ability. Freddie and Tyron aren't having good years by their standards. Super talented guys who just aren't playing at a high level. Jaylon has been great against the run and garbage in pass coverage. LVE was all-pro last year and fell off a cliff this year..........So sure on paper, lots of talent.......uninspired talent.

This roster is absolutely overrated! Personnel decisions, far more than coaching decisions, are to blame for the Cowboy's woes. This is not a championship level roster. Not even close.

The defense has overrated players. That unit has talent, but I see them as closer to the NFL average...which is about how they are performing.

The offense is loaded. They are putting up hollow numbers but not points the way they should, based on the talent.

Special Teams is just awful, and that usually reflects on ST coaching more than anything

Well, that's that, then.

Of course, if the Cowboys didn't take the ball out of Dak's hands at the end of the Vikings loss and they didn't have a punt blocked at New England, they'd have two wins against winning teams and be 8-5 right now. And the whole narrative about this team is different.

The bottom line is the talent level on all the NFL teams is closer than many think. With competent coaching this Cowboys team is already NFC East champs and would be playing for seeding these last three weeks.

Misleading "headline" from Ochoa.

Sure, a few coaches think they were overrated. But look at the last sentence: "For the most part, they believe that it's a really talented team."

Yep, a lot of knee jerk to a headline designed to gen click bait.

More interesting is that FO points out this is the second most underachieving team by DVOA since they began calculating DVOA. At least to this point.
It's the opposite, analytics-wise, to the 2016 team, which markedly outperformed its analytics.

The narrative regarding this team's talent is always source of comic relief for me. There is much to be said about team building and roster management and those are the sorts of things that seem to be lost.

Has the coaching lacked here for some time? Probably, but only because the royal family pinned its hopes of spawning their own little Tom Landry/Bill Walsh starter kit. Not because he'd toiled for years, working his way up the ladder, cutting his teeth under accomplished coaches, but rather that he was a former player here with a certain look, disposition, not to mention his father's ties to the club - all of which the Joneses were extremely comfortable with.

Coaching is always easiest to blame. For fans, it makes sense because the concept of portability aligns more with the swapping out of a few coaches. Not that this staff isn't deserving of the fire reigning down.

Sweeping changes of a roster in a capped environment? Management overhaul? Here? Not bloody likely.

This roster is absolutely overrated. Particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

The fact this team continues to ignore the safety and defensive tackle position has reared it's ugly head. Adding to the problem is the regression of both LVE and Jaylon Smith this year; though maybe LVE was playing hurt for a while.

You’re taking one side of the fanbase.

The other side thinks Dak is elite; believe Zeke is the best RB in the game; didn’t want to sign Earl Thomas because we had something almost as good in Xavier Woods; thinks Jaylon Smith is already one of the better LBs in the game, et cetera.

I'm in my own side of the fan base. I think Dak is an upper-middle tier QB; maybe a low tier one. I think Zeke is a good all-around back but the Cowboys overpaid for him. I was furious when they didn't get Earl Thomas but I do think Woods can be a very good player with the right coaching.

And I'm very, very disappointed in Jaylon this year. So I'm kind of in the middle on everything.

A roster is a list of names.

One reason our list looks better than it is is because of health issues.

LVE, Jaylon, and Frederick look like stars on paper, but not so much this year being unhealthy with long term issues. Cooper hasn't been up to speed for most of the season.

Other guys are just not as good as they used to be. Lee, Tyron, Zeke.

I'd say that DLaw was always overrated a little, and this year his numbers are even down. His numbers this year are not near as good as his reputation.

A whole bunch of the big names on our roster, all but LVE still on the field, all down from their best years.

Well , we were one player away last year from finishing a 3-5 start probably with 6-10 or 7-9 season.

Of course we’re over hyped by Jerry of course. And then when it doesn’t meet those expectations it starts crashing down.
