Starting the season with no distractions

The last several years the Cowboys have started the season with distractions that I believe haunted us throughout the year. Zeke's suspension and legal battles haunted us in 2018 and even when he came back it took him several weeks to get back into playing shape. 2019 we had D. Law threatening to hold out and refusing to get the surgery unless he was signed to a long term deal. Sure he got the surgery but I believe he still wasn't 100%. Then we had Zekes distraction in Cabo and his hold out. Another distraction that I believe haunted this team from coming in 100% prepared.

I want to go into 2020 without these distractions. It seems clear that McCarthy and Jerry believe Dak IS the future. If that's the case get a deal done NOW. Don't wait until March to franchise tag him and let this liger on all season. If Amari you believe in Amari then sign him, If not let him walk. There will be new offensives and defenses to be learned and coaches to get comfortable with. We need these players and coaches to come into the season fully aware and focused on the season and not have these distractions that have haunted us in the past.

I know Jerry likes to drag crap out for headlines. Time to get these deals done and figure out what were doing or not doing with the remaining 20+ free agents.

If you want Dak to sign early, be ready to give him almost $40m. He has no reason to sign early for anything other than above market.

I feel like fans forget there's the whole element of players actually wanting to sign the contract.

The Cowboys DL is always good for 1-2 suspensions being handed out over the off-season, so I'll be expecting that one.

If you want your football team to have no distractions, unfortunately I'd suggest following a new football team

One thing that puzzles me is why anyone doubts Jerry Jones was not completely sold on Prescott back in 2016. I am almost certain McCarthy spoke mostly about how he would utilize and capitalize on Prescott's strengths during his interview. If Jones spent over a decade trying to get Garrett the head coach to work, he is definitely going to be steadfast about getting Prescott the quarterback to work.

Certainly, some people have concerns about Prescott as the team's franchise quarterback. That is not debatable. What is questionable is the continuing belief that Jones is uncertain about Prescott. It seems like (to me) that it is a lot of folks simply projecting their own doubts onto Jones. And it ain't sticking.

Dallas is a distraction in and of itself. Jerry wouldn't have it any other way.

It will be a true sign of a new era if a defensive lineman isn't suspended in the upcoming months.
Jerry or any other owner really has no control over players doing stupid stuff and getting arrested. What they do have control over negotiating contracts when they are up.
