Would you be for or against Witten getting a spot on this staff?

I imagine most people will be like oh hell yes da Pope do it but would anyone have an issue with the Cowboys (Jerry) finding a role for him on this new staff to begin his grooming?

Jerry needs to say no to this kind of move just to send the message that there has been a culture change.

I never have a problem with a former player who is knowledgeable about his position becoming a coach for that position. As long as you start at the bottom and prove yourself as you work yourself up. Nothing wrong with Witten being a Tightends coach.

Witten has tarnished his legacy with the Cowboys.

What has he done to "tarnish his legacy"? Come on, he is an older player that still wants to play, which is very common. It is up to the coaches to decide who gives us a better chance to win every Sunday. Said another way, it is Garret's and Moore's fault that Witten was a starter this year when it was obvious he had significantly declined.

What was Witten supposed to do when he was asked to start a game? "Sorry coach, I think Jarwin is better than me so I decline to play." The problem is that none of the coaches had the stones to bench him. Also, they should have never allowed him to yell at Kellen Moore on the sidelines. He should have been benched or suspended for that.

The good news is that none of this stuff will happen now that we have Big Mac as our HC. It is easy to yell at a 15 year old coordinator or a 120 lb ginger, but let's see them try that with our new 350lb head coach.

Against.....he was already in Kellen's ear this year trying to tell him how to run the offense. Don't think that is a players job on game day to tell a coach what to do. Just do your job Jason....and last I looked...he still hadn't blocked anybody.

He can follow Garrett. Playing and teaching aren’t the same thing.
exactly, witten is kinda dumb.
Ex players no matter how good they played dont usually make good coaches.
witten said he would not be a progress stopper or hindrance with the 2 young TE's, but then boom!! he is taking all their snaps away! lol
He is either too dumb to realize it or was just lying.

I love Jason Witten one of he best to ever wear the star but, this team needs to distance themselves as much as possible from the former regime.

If Witten is actually worth his salt in that capacity let him earn with someone else who thinks he's worthy of the investment rather than having it gifted to him through the old country club Dallas Cowboy channels.

Maybe he ends up being a great coach. Hell, maybe in 5 years he's ready to take McCarthy's job but he's got to earn it in the real world. Not in Jerry's cozy bubble.

It's the one issue that I have with the Cowboys possibly keeping Moore on board. I don't have anything against Moore other than the fact that he's a remnant of a coaching staff and system that ultimately failed here. The new voices and direction have to be new. This group of players have gotten far too comfortable over the past few seasons and it's shown in their effort (or lack thereof). There needs to be a little tension in that locker room and I don't want any comfortable security blankets with ANY voice in the room when they take the field in OTAs, TC, or season.

People have opined that we've overrated our talent on this team. I say bull****. It's a cop out for the former coaching staff. This team has all the talent needed to compete in the post season. You gonna tell me that Tennessee has more talent than Dallas? Houston? Minnesota? Seattle? The reason that those teams are playign next week and our fate was sealed two weeks ago has nothing to do with talent. It has to do with coaching and heart. Unfortunately, our coaching had no ability to instill any heart. It was a rah, rah, you're playing for the greatest franchise ever, rah, rah bull**** calling card that was based in rhetoric instead of reality.

I hope MM's first message to this team is that this tea, has too much tradition and too much history to give a half assed effort. This team has been irrelevant for far too long and it ends today.

Garrett would have built up a highlight reel of past greats and Super Bowl wins and tell the team that they are part of that tradition (when nothing could be farther from the truth).

I want MM to walk in the room and just put up the numbers 1995. That's the last time that this team was relevant and it changes today. Either buy in give it EVERYTHING you have or get the f*** out.

As long as Big Mike is okay with it, why not? Jason Witten is a future Hof'er which is equivalent to a master's degree in the offense, he's earned it. I know a lot of folks don't respect Witten or give him that much credit for his knowledge of offenses but I believe that is because of their own lack of information on Witten and not because there is any merit to that line of thinking.

NO! No one else needs to be “groomed”. Maximize the most of the current staff.

Against it. This team needs outside influence.

He could barely do his job...Hell his blocking has been atrocious for years....yet Garrett let it slide. Last thing I want to see is a guy that couldn't do his job..try and tell Kellen how to do his. Witten has been part of the problem.

Everyone saw what went on with Wade and Garrett. No coach is going to want to bring on a former player that Jerry could be wanting to put in there. New rule for Cowboys coaches should be you can’t be HC unless you’ve been a highly successful College HC for at least 4 years or had 6+ years coaching in the NFL. Kellen was even promoted to OC way too fast. He should have had to go to UW first before coming here.

Having him back last year was JG’s final nail in the coffin. They lied and said he would play 25% of the snaps. Total con job. I’ve never been a fan of any of the Ex players coming in to help with practice etc. I don’t mind a pep talk every now and again, but these young dudes have no clue who Randy White is, or Charles Haley.

I couldn't agree more.

Don't get me wrong, I truly appreciated everything that Witten brought to this team and he was one of the good ones.

With that being said it's time to turn the page on that story and move on from Witten completely.
