The evaluation we saw during the Press conference was a "made for TV" moment. He had to say exactly what was said about Dak. He's coached both Favre and Rodgers so he knows what Elite talent is at the Qb position. Time will tell what his Real evaluation is.

Yeah, I didn't like how Jerry and Mike were completing each others sentences. It was a bit slimy.

I don’t know if it looks large.

Here’s the thing. They can franchise Dak. And see how he does under McCarthy. McCarthy can see how Dak does in his system.

If after one season, Dak isn’t playing well or McCarthy doesn’t want to keep him, they can draft a new QB and Big Mike is a great HC to have, if they need to develop a first round pick at QB.

We are in great shape QB wise. IMO. One way or another.
In theory that sounds logical but they’ve already told Dak to prove it this year by not extending him. He proved it and a franchise tag would not only piss him off, but many other players as well. He’ll get an extension sooner rather than later.

Mark Rypien won a super bowl. Come to think of it so did Trent Dilfer, Joe Flacco, Doug Williams, Brad Johnson, Nick Foles, and a wobbly arm Peyton Manning.

Rypien got sacked 7 times that year and had the greatest OL in the history of the game. Flacco was good then and had one of the all time great QB performances. Brad Johnson has one of the all time great defenses and Manning had one of the best in the modern era, second only to the Legion of Boom.

You pay Dak ........ In a few years his contract will be a bargain.
pretty much how it works. most players who are "hot" at the moment get the most $. a few years later, that contract is average.

Now that we can finally purge the organization for Jason Garrett's stench the biggest question that remains is what do we do with Dak?
Clearly he is not a top 5 QB, and that is ok with me, but I also cannot pay him as such even though him and his agent demand that be the case.

I also don't believe Jerry is willing to really consider an alternative. I am good with using the Franchise tag if Jerry goes out and makes another move at QB. I would not want to waste 30 million on one year if we end up signing him next off season to an even larger contract. The whole kick the can down the road with QB contracts does not seem like a prudent philosophy.

1) We bit the bullet and sign him to a Wentz type contract and move on. Do we think the Front office can find another QB? Can we find another Dak/ Minshew?

2) Franchise Dak? What does that buy us? Is it to find out if we he is the long term solution?

3) Move on from Dak right now. What options do we have?
Keenum/ Rivers/ T.Hill, Winston, Mariotta. How much do we trust our infrastructure to develop an existing qb?

we just signed an offensive minded head coach to a five year deal.

What in his press conference or comments about Dak leads you to believe the Cowboys have any plans other than signing Dak long term
Mode that matter, what has any member of the Cowboys front office ever said other than they love Dak and plan to sign him forever

the only people contemplating doing something other than sign Dak are message board posters looking to spark conversation

i think it’s probably clear now that dak is going to get a long term deal and being willing to make him work was part of the hiring process for head coach.

and however low i am on dak at times i do think back to the post aikman, pre romo days and i’m fine with it even though it makes me a little nervous with the cap and how the team has drafted lately!
Seems like you're ok with average because you don't want to go through hard times again? Sounds like a way to stay just average to me. I'm not with that even though Jerry seems to agree but no contract has been signed yet. I rather go for great instead of staying average just to avoid hard times.

I don't think Jerry has the gravitas to pull that move. If anything we sign him to a transnational tag and have someone sigh him and get two first round picks.

Why would he do something stupid like that?

I just can't understand those that loved Romo, but hate Dak. On the contrary, I cannot understand those that exalt Dak, but killed Romo. I see both players as good enough to win championships. Now that Garrett is gone, a real NFL coach will fill the void of game nuance, that often mesmerized Garrett.

Garrett, and his coaching staff were all separate entities. They were thrown together, without any cohesion. Now, the players that are having a hard time adapting to big boy football, will possibly be employed elsewhere. Jerry, will continue to be Jerry, but a seasoned coach should be able to handle his antics.

I hope they pay dak because I'm getting part of the money. he proved nothing except that against the bad team he looks good and against good teams with good defenses he looks bad.

You haters sound really silly with you Dak comments. Either you're just trolling or you'd know there has been MUCH worse QB's through here than Dak. I'm looking forward to seeing how McCarthy can improve Dak's game. This is a time of optimism not negatism. Have you already forgotten in a week what a decade long mess we just got out of?
Agree. However, it is concerning that you hired a coach known as a QB whisperer but the Cowboys don't have a QB to whisper to in his ear.

Sign Dak before he is intrigued to replace Tom Brady in NE, Brees in New Orleans, or Rivers in that new Jerry Jones stadium in LA.

In regards to what he can do for Dak, read up on Aaron Brooks who was Mike McCarthy's chosen player development from Greenbay to the New Orleans Saints. Who was the most prolific playoff winning QB in Saints history beside Drew Brees? It was not Archie Manning.

Ah yes, the shoulder excuse while they threw over forty times a game and Dak was stiff arming guys with that same shoulder ‘not being right’.

Dak had stretched of bad football all throughout the season, despite his amazing pas protection. He floundered around against Miami for one half, on 9 incompletions and one interception, while Zeke basically rushed close to one hundred yards in a half and Commanders for about a half and was horrible against the Jets.
Okay what do you do instead?

Yes all of that is true which is my point. Even Jim McMahon who would struggle to be a backup in today's NFL has a ring. The point is it doesn't take a Tom Brady or a Joe Montana to win a super bowl. Dak is as good or better than all of those QBs I listed. For some reason this forum thinks we have to go find the next Dan Marino to win at all. And yes I know Dan Marino doesn't have a ring either.
